Aviva pension fund

Hi all,
I'm 22 and have an Aviva pension, held since Feb last year. My current contribution is £100 p/month.
My fund is in the Aviva Pensions Mixed Investment (40-85% Shares) S2. Is there any one here that can... give their opinion on a better fun to put the fund into? I hear it's best to invest in more risky funds when you are younger. I have paid in £1106 (inc tax relief) and the fund it only worth £1110, I would like to see a better return start happening... So can anyone out there give their opinion on an Aviva fund to store the money for now?
Thank you

In the past month the FTSE100 index has dropped about 10% and is now lower than at any point since you started your pension, and other world indexes have had similar falls, so your low return at the moment is not surprising. Compared with other similar funds the Aviva one is slightly better than average.
The good thing about your pension is that it is invested in a very wide range of assets. It is essential that this characteristic is retained.
The bad thing in my view for someone with many years to go to retirement is as you suggest that you are paying to reduce some of the fluctuations in price that will inevitably happen - ie avoiding risk. But you dont need to do this as you have such a long time frame.
So my opinion is that you should find a broadly based fund that invests 100% in equities (% equity is what the 40%-85% means). If you are restricted to Aviva there is a "Global Equity" pension fund that would have given a rather better return over the past few years - the difference in returns wont be massive but will certainly be helpful.0 -

no.
What do you think is wrong with that one?I hear it's best to invest in more risky funds when you are younger.
Timescale can dilute the risk. However, you still have to consider capacity for loss and knowledge and understanding. No point investing 100% equity if you cant handle a 50% loss.I have paid in £1106 (inc tax relief) and the fund it only worth £1110, I would like to see a better return start happening
You have barely been invested on half that amount for more than 6 months. Nothing wrong with the figures you quoted.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). That's a lovely signature you have there dunston
Anyone who still has a signature showing mostly exclamation marks.
It's an unintended consequence of trying to thwart yesterdays "spam attack"
Go to your signature edit box, copy your signature (which should be displayed correctly) delete existing sig. and paste back in.

His signature is showing normally for me.
It was mostly exclamation marks earlier today but after clicking on his username to view his profile, it seemed to correct itself along with signatures for other users that were in exclamation marks.
Try doing that.0 -
I'd tried that, maybe I should have refreshed the page, anyhow, it's fine now:)0
