Using Travel to Interview Rail Warrant

The JobCentre are to give me a bus pass and rail warrant tomorrow for an interview 100 miles away from home next week.....fine......good. How does the rail part work because I took in a screen printout from the train company showing the cheapest fares if I booked today ie: 1 week in advance.

Does the warrant allow me to buy tickets online and pay using some code off the warrant or do you take the warrant to the station either asap or on the day of travel?

Im concerned that collecting tickets on the day may mean I have to top up from my own funds for a non-advance walk on fare.......I cant see how the ticket office would allow me to buy the cheaper fares I found 1 week earlier unless there is some system if click and collect maybe with a code as suggested earlier.

Any advice from those who have been through this please.

If it is a national rail warrant usually it is a walk up fair only.

At my work we use national rail warrants:
I will fill it in to say for example "off peak return from London to reading".

You pass it in to a manned station and they will give you a ticket in exchange.

The ones we use in my work don't allow a cheaper fare, it drives me crazy, not very :money:

  • Not sure how to use this site so sorry if this is irrelevant
Spent the whole evening from 7:30 trying to buy 16/25 rail card at discount
Through the site ... Kept getting as far as passport details and the site just rejected my applicantion
  • Hand 'rail warrant' to Booking Clerk at the station, A two part rail ticket will be handed back. Providing that the warrant has been filled out correctly by the Job Centre, All to often the Job seeker will find themselves issued with only a single ticket.
  • If its the same as the onetime I had one, though not from the job centre, it has to be used in person not online and you can get the ticket in advance or on the day.

Certainly I recall the station staff werent too sure how to do it so if you do it on the day allow a little extra time for them checking up with colleagues etc
