Sainsbury's changing the value of Nectar Points.

The basics.

As of 15th April 2015 you will only get 1 point per pound spent instead of the 2 points you get now.

They are also removing the point(s) value that you get for reusing your own bags. This is to coincide with the charging of bags - coming in by law - if you want one. Price for a bag is going to be 5p I believe.

They are saying there will be better boost offers eg. times when they will do Double UP points for a period.

If it's anything like their app where they give only bonus points usually on their expensive Taste the Difference range, it going to be bad, bad , bad!!

I earn more point buying on ebay than shopping in overpriced sainsburys these days.
  • Nectar points are a big con.......How do Sainsburys pay to run a scheme like Nectar?

    They put the prices up!

Sainsburys is expensive, has always been expensive and always will be expensive.
Shopping elsewhere will save you at least £10 worth of Nectar Points every week. I really don't understand why people shop there if there is an alternative.

We had been buying near enough all basics which are decent quality in comparison the other 3 supermarkets however you are right. You get far more savings going for a cheaper store than you would ever make in nectar points.
the only reason we stuck to sainsburys so long was the nectar points and the fact asdas basic range is lower quality.

However we are now stopping using sainsburys so i guess this nectar point change gives us another reason to stop bothering. I made a decent amount on the surveys but i got bored & was busy with other survey sites anyway. So i dont feel the nectar points advantage much anymore anyway.

Also all the basics items have gone up by 5p which in our monthly shop it soon adds up to an extra few quid per shop.
Also we found recently we can save at least £15/£20 per shop doing one at asda & the delivery is only a £1 later in the night.
Far more of a saving in total than nectar points.

With more people shopping at cheaper supermarkets as well as aldi/lidl accompanied with this i can see many more abandoning them.

Don't do my weekly shop there (Ald! for half the price), apart from a few Basics products every couple of months, but still earn big points in a year. That's how I do it.

Canvass surveys, Adpoints, fuel (usually cheapest in my area), eBay, nectar eShops (ie. Argos etc), Search, monthly pay off and use Credit Card - add all those points up and I'm sitting on £119 to spend from earning points just this year.

So yes, it'll be a big loss to me. :(
    Back on the DFW Wagon:

    CC - £3,300 on 0% til 04/2020
    CC - £4,500 on 0% til 02/2019
    Loan - £12,063.84 as at 4/1/18

    Sounds a bit rubbish :(

They usually forget to give me points for reusing my bags anyway.
