One week sick then Holiday

Just wondering what I need to do.

I managed to hurt back over the weekend and have gone sick, I can't imagine me return before my holiday next week. So how do I self certificate without returning to work?

I haven't contacted HR yet, just in case I feel better before then and it says nothing in my handbook.

Thanks

I wouldn't be surprised if the employer insists on you returning to work before commencing annual leave.

Fill in a self-cert form and post it to your employer?

HR may ask for a certificate anyway as extending holiday by using sick is one of the things they are typically afraid of. If you get signed off for more than a week you could then use the holiday some other time (assuming you want to/get paid sick and also your employer is fine with you going away).
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

We need a doctors certificate if you are "ill" the day(s) before or the day(s) after a booked holiday.

Think it boils down to what your handbook/contract says.
