what happens after contract exchanged?

Buying a new house from a famous developer.
During the buying process I was allowed unrestricted access to the house, I'd just drop in and borrow the keys, have a look at the house then give the keys back. At that point they didn't even ask my name, it could be a thief, a vandal etc, they just trusted me..I did this over 5 times (second view, brought family to view etc)
Now the house is bought and contracts exchanged, they will not allow me to even get in to quickly measure curtains.. is there any legal explanation for that or are they just not bothered with me now they've had my money?

Have you not measured up for curtains in the 5 times you have been there previously?
Look at the contract, there may be something in there that restricts you access while you complete."Dream World" by The B Sharps....describes a lot of the posts in the Loans and Mortgage sections !!!0 -

Have you not asked them why you are not allowed to view it?
We are exchanging soon but completion is not for 9 months and we have been told we can go in the house nearer the completion time to measure up carpets and curtains etc.0 -
maybe because now it's 'sold' (though the developer is waiting for the money/completion) and as such it belongs to someone else....or the intention for it to belong to someone else has been noted, they would have to prove it is you each time they let you gain access to the house...so whilst this in theory is simple (show your passport for example), in practice there isn't some sort of procedure set up with the developer and the people letting you in do not want to 'get in trouble'.
I bet you it is something as stupid as that (stupid not saying that this is not needed nor right, just that they could put something in place....)0 -

Unfortunately we've not asked.. They never told us YOU CAN'T VIEW IT but they keep making poor excuses (don't have the keys and the likes). I asked to go in and measure curtains and site manager instead sent a builder to take the measures for me (of the internal window instead the outside window as I wanted), they forgot the length and I asked if I could come in and get the length and they sent another builder to measure it etc..
My advice to you would be to get everything wrote down in writing, get them to email you or txt you saying you will be allowed in after exchange of contract, this way it's easier to avoid this problem..0 -
Up to exchange of contracts it was their property and they could do what they liked with it and give access to anyone - now contracts have been exchanged they are taking a bit more care!0

Phone them and say "I'm buying X property. I want to pop in to do some measuring up." See what they say. If they say no, ask why.
Now you've exchanged, you're legally committed, so they probably can't be bothered freeing up staff to accompany you anymore. They don't need to 'sell you' on the house any more.0 -

Perhaps they simply decided that 5 times was enough.0 -

I was not very clear, I didn't see my house 5 times, I saw other people's house, its a new house so I bought off plant.
I saw a flat, and a 2 bed which was supposed to look similar to mine (they didn't have one identical to mine). I had a second view on the 2 bed one before reserving the house. Then I visited it again with a family member who wants to buy a house too.
My house I only saw once, without carpet. then on the house demonstration which I was accompanied by site manager, after house demonstration finished, I asked to measure for curtains and cupboard and he said no, he'd get someone else to do it for me but measures are not what I wanted (eg. I want to decide how long my curtains are, they gave me a window to floor measure etc)0
