work grevience issue . . .

(posted of behalf of a friend without Internet access)

Staff at the company were rewarded for working an extra day beacuse of a unpredicted increase in demand.

staff were rewarded with concert tickets which most thought was inappropriate and inconsiderate as most are cash strapped advisors who made it clear for there preference for asda/tesco vouchers instead with which they could have both food, drinks, petrol etc.

Friend sold the tickets on ebay, stating in the advert there reward did not justify there hard work on that day.

friend was critical (saying the management were stupid, in not at least opening a forum asking staff in how they would have preferred to have been rewarded).

management have clocked on this ad had been posted by someone living in slough (as the location was given away in the advert) and there is no more than a dozen people from slough who worked that day.

My friend is worried about his job security should they find out. he was questioned earlier this week if he had posted the advert to which he replied he never, his identity is currently only masqued by his username.

but iv been thinking . . .

Surely if you accuse your employer (or management) for being a bit thick with their choice of rewarding the employees extra days work

be it on outside work / on the net, surely you shouldnt face disciplinary for that?

(just thought id gather your thoughts - thanks in advance)

If you publicly criticise your employer, I'm sure the employer could have grounds to issue a written warning. Bad mouthing the employer can damage their goodwill and reputation.

In this case, the employer hasnt got a hope in hell of finding out who it is (unless they won the auction).

thanks for the prompt replies, iv advised my friend pretty much the same thing, that unless they find out you wrote it (if you admit it) then you could get done with a warning (at most a written).

iv advised its best if he played shtum then that way he cant be identified.

anyway keep the replies coming and il keep you posted with what he finds out from work during this week.

What i advised my colleague was that if the company (a financial services giant) cant conclusive prove you made a derisory/derogetory comment about the company then there is little or no chance of any the company taking any further action.

    good idea almac

just a bit more to add,

in being critical about the company iv just been told he didnt state the companies name anywhere in the advert, but he did refer to there slogan (for example if he worked for tesco - in the advert he wrote 'i work for a major supermarket, who is sloganed by every little helps, that is every little helps in getting you a disciplinary'

my friends stance is that he did not directly imply or incriminate the company

( i dont know if this adds more weight to his case!)

It doesnt. The slogan identifies the brand.

I'd be pulling that ad if I were you.... sorry, your friend. All management have to do is win the auction and see the seller's Paypal Info. If the address is confirmed, there's your friend's identity.

  • Not really anonymous...

The email address will appear on the invoice, as will the name and postal address if the payment can be sent via post.
