How to make a game plan for life?

Hi all I am new.

I got myslelf into a pickle and, from trawling these forums amongst others, came to the conclusion that a Trust Deed (TD, Scottish equivalent of IVA) was the best solution and, so far, everything appears to be working out well.

I had debts in excess of £30k and I am now paying £350 to my Insolvency Practioner which will mean, over the course of three years, I pay about a third of my previous debts.

Life is so much less stressful now.

And now that stress has gone, it has got me thinking aobut a game plan for life ie a strategic plan to get the most out of life financially and emotionaly.

I never really had a game plan in the past, well, I had one up until three years ago in terms of my career. Unfortunately I failed professional exams in one job that I had worked years towards and was booted out! But that's another story....

Anyway, now that I have the opportunity to put this plan together, I was wondering how I would go about it?

There are a few things I want to do:

- further my career. Pay is good (£25.5k) considering I have no managerial responsibilties. BUT I want to develop a good business acumen and managerial skills.

- see more of the world. I have been fortunate enough to see some great places so far in my life and this has given me the bug to see more! In fact, I would go so far as to say I would like to live in a foreign country for a while!

- be financially secure.

You may note that I've not included anything about owning my own place - frankly, on a salary of £25k and with a Trust Deed, there is no way I'll be able to purchase own property for many years...hence the reason I fancy a living abroad for a whilE!

SO, do any of you have a game plan? And how do you go about reaching your targets?

Hi fg, I have frequent brainstorming sessions - mindmaps and that type of thing. Some are very short term. Maybe one week or the next 6 months, others are longer term - 1 year, 3 years, even 5 years although I don't go further than that as most of the things on that list are fairly dreamlike!!!

But it does get me looking at the "bigger picture" which always helps I find.

Good luck, others will give you far better ideas than me, I'm sure!

IVA's seem to be frowned upon on here generally but on those figures i'd say your IP did you a very good deal.

    ? ? ?

I wasn't asking for advice on my TD. :S
  • My main game plan is that my debt will not affect my kids. I will plough away at it as best I can and continue to give my kids a nice life. Keep thinking I want 'things' ie. a bigger house, telly, car etc but they dont matter I just want contentment xx
