My dd has just sprung on me that she would now like a party for her 21st, (october 6th) she has recently split up from her partner of 4 unhappy controlling years, she is on a wild i'm free and single rampage. i dont want to dissapoint her and say no, but equally will i have enough time and money to do this, she says that she will pay for it herself, which i dont feel she should have to pay for it all. she has booked and paid for the hall herself already. now i need some ideas about food, best d.j's. party decorations, cheap invites, best wine for a toast, what sort of food should i do my dd says people just drink at partys and dont eat much. you can guess the rest. has anyone out there done this on a budget and succeded, i really want to do this for her as now she has broken free from bf and is able to have a party i want it to be nice, family and freinds will help but not sure how to go about it.
looking for all the advice and tips i can get.

My 21st birthday party was quite some time ago but I remember that we didn't bother with a toast. People just raised a glass of whatever they were holding at the time. I'd check out the hall and see if you can take in your own food, I'd imagine you'd save loads by doing it yourself.
What about a cake? You could make your own or find a friend/relative to make one for you. Failing that, try Tesco for ready made ones to decorate yourself or get one of their photo printed ones. I'd go to eBay for decorations, there seems to be loads on there. And make the invites yourself on the computer.
HTH, have a lovely time!Cos I don't shine if you don't shine.0 -
my mum did mine on a minimal budget, she stored stuff up for weeks to do the whole buffet herself.
about 250 people were at mine (i worked in a pub at the time and most of the regulars turned out). not everyone ate but there was tons left over.
no-one eats cake after a drink so get one for the family who'll eat it (i have some older aunties who eat wedding cake etc, no-one else really bothers with it - thats why i'm thinking fairy cakes or muffins for my wedding).
so don't think the cake has to serve everyone who is invited.
i digress....
if you are up for making your own buffet then get offers/bulk buy things like tins of tuna and jars of mayo, potato salad, coleslaw, chicken legs, big packets of rice, pasta which you can do a cheap dressing for (olive oil,any type of vinegar and a bit of mustard is a great dressing and cheap), salad, i'm making myself hungry here!
my invitations were photocopies of a fifties chintzy picture that i made up a funny line to go with (like those cards you can get with black and white pictures and rude captions). i made sure i could get at least 3 on an A4 page to save money and paper.
hope this helps, i hope you have a good time.0
