Monday 13th October - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .
But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.
Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.
So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Good Morning All
Had to scroll to page 2 to find us this morning under the onslaught of obvious spam posts. Never seen that before on this site. Hope that will be sorted soon.
So today. Have just got off the phone with First Utility. They went through all our readings since Feb when we joined & agreed we were paying too much at £88 a month, and said we could go down to £65 to reflect usage. I said lets go for £70 that way if we are a little bit over we wont start to creep. But having just had a large rebate of £247 based on the £88 I think we should be ok. Thats a nice saving of £18 a month I can put straight towards the emergency fund.
Also in great news, our car which we paid £1600 for back in April that has been nothing but a terrible stressful mess, is attracting offers of around £450 on gumtree where we have it listed for £400 as a non runner, that is possibly fixable (garage estimated we needed to spend £900 to fix an oil leak, & it has gear box issues) but that has made us feel a lot happier. As at least its something back to put towards a new car, or whatever.
Its peeing down with rain this morning & my next task, somewhat money related, is to comb the pavements between here & sainsburys about half a mile away, as DS bought himself a plastic bat out of his pocket money that he realised hed droppped on route home. I have no chance of finding it, but at least I can tell him I tried. Cost a £1.
Am then going to a friends for coffee & a catchup.
Today I should need to buy only some cherry tomatoes, & pay £1.50 for the bus.
Still in credit on our account, it would be so good for us to make it to the 25th without an overdraft. Realistically I would be happy with less than £100od which would mean we'd reduced our spending overall by £150 this month. Which is good I think.
Ok, wishing you all a good monday.
Take care

Morning DFW-Jedis,
Well, life goes on, as does the almost everlasting quest for solvency and sanity. The sun's almost shining this morning, I hope it lasts. Sorry for my absence, had a case of the never-quite-got-round-to-it-itis and also lack-of-inspiration-itis.
Thanks for the starter Ziggy.
The List
:starmod: Check online banking and reconcile monies after the weekend. Need to pay off some funds we borrowed for a week on a 0% credit card to repair car.
:starmod: Check mobile broadband and broadband remaining allowances.
:starmod: Backup my Finances Spreadsheet.
:starmod: Pursue quest for a new, permanent, well-paid career.
:starmod: Do Nectar AdPoints.
:starmod: Do i-Say surveys.
:starmod: Eagerly await the postie who might bring me some free goodies!
:starmod: Read free library books and listen to free audio CD stories.
:starmod: Enjoy last few flowers from the garden.
:starmod: Continue testing free deodorant.
:starmod: Work through a long To Do list without moaning or getting (too distracted).
:starmod: Turn off electric alarm clock at the wall til tonight.
:starmod: Keep heating off as long as we can bear today.
:starmod: Walked down the road to the local boat show yesterday. Spent nothing and avoided the £3(!) car parking charge.
Well that's me for today. Good luck on your quests, Jedis.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0 -
Ooh, not sure what is happening to the forum? The first 5 posts appear in gibberish and the same on other threads as well. Someone on another thread mentioned an attack of some kind, or maybe just something to do with the horrible weather
Oh well, I will post and see what happens. Seems ok now, though people's signatures are still looking odd
Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy (though I can't read what you have written)
So far today I have:
Waved off weekend visitor - OH has also gone out, so a peaceful day on my own
Checked banks
Checked dental appointments and noted on calendar so that they don't get forgotten
Taken some items to my sales unit and brought back some silver plate bits to clean
Popped into Mr S and got a few bits that we needed - doh! I have forgotten the vodka! Not as bad as it sounds  OH wants to make damson vodka with some gifted damsons :rotfl:
Put a pot of 'fridge bottom soup' on to cook to use up all the odd bits from the fridge, with some stock, a tin of tomatoes, a tin of butterbeans and some lentils and pearl barley from the larder - lunch time soonAdded a portion of HM tomato sauce to give it a bit more oomph, and it was lovely - I have enough for lunches for another couple of days, too!
Still to do:
Clean silver plate Done
Sort out spare bedroom Not done this yet. I will want to wash the bedding when I strip it off, and it has been peeing down all day
Meals from stuff left over from weekend Done
Light the woodburner and chill after houseful at the weekendEnded up sorting the garage out, but sitting by the fire now!
Hope everyone has a nice day0 -
Hi Dawn
Oh no what a pain. When I first came on at 8.30 there was spam everywhere on the forum. Literally hundreds of posts full of crap so I think MS has been hacked.
Anyway wont bother writing more now as it may well be unreadable anyway.
Take care

Greetings O Frugal Ones,
Absolutely peeing down here non-stop since we got up this morning. We had planned a nice little trip out, but too wet. Never mind, have kept the frugal faith:
*Quick trip into town to post cake to London (£8 for next day delivery!!! But still cheaper then sending bouquet of flowers......& I did bake it myself)
*Good news - the moisturiser I wanted was half price. Bad news - moisturiser gannets had got there first & there was none left. Am in city tomorrow so will look there.
*Resisted spending £10-49 on charity shop dress. Love 'Monsoon', right size, good nick, but dark blue & red not my colours so money saved.
*Got laundry done overnight on cheap tariff. On heated airer which will be switched on at bedtime as close to Economy 7 time as poss.
*Dinner from freezer - quarter pounders I made a while back when I got a good deal on steak mince.
Haven't really been able to progress my 'Project getting ready for winter' jobs today, but have spent a useful couple of hours sorting all my Christmas recipe clippings & arranging them into my own recipe book. Free recipes saved over the years from magazines, free notebook & pen collected by Mr f on recent training course, cover decorated with festive craft supplies donated by my Mum in case I could use them & have to admit that even the Pritt stick was scrounged, so a very frugal project. Nice too, to have safely preserved treasured recipes which get tattier every year.
*Did competition. I don't do nearly as many these days as so many are via Facebook & result in so much spammy stuff. I love prizes though! In fact, it's high time I won something!
*Still no heating on.
Still bloody raining......going to curl up & read my book.
Cheers,
