Vets fees... don't you love them

Last night our persian cat started exhibiting signs of a bladder blockage/infection which were getting worse this morning so a trip to the out of hours vets was in order.

20 minutes in the surgery and £150 lighter - I'm in the wrong business

He seems fine in himself but will probably take a day or two for the medication he has to kick in completely.

Anything else and I'd have left it until tomorrow but bladder blockage can be fatal in hours if it doesnt get checked out so it wasn't one I was prepared to risk.

We don't have pet insurance on him as we have 2 other cats too and the cost of insurance vs cost of treatment over the course of a year isn't really value for money.

This is one of the reasons why when Present Mog - age 16 3/4 - passes on, I will not get another.

I am sure if I added all the expenses of the last 16 3/4 years in vets bills and kennel fees, I might have a small heart attack!

16 3/4 years! Oh dear, in which case I still have a lot of spending to come - ours are 1, 5, and 10 :)

Ours was nearly 19 when he passed on. We didn't have insurance either but he only started being poorly once he got to about 17 so although we did have some vets bills after that I suspect that the cost of insuring him would have been more.

Much as I miss him I'm not getting another cat .It's so much easier to be able to just decide that we'll go and visit DDs or friends for the weekend without having to make arrangements for the cat and I certainly don't miss having to boil up chicken for his tea .
