My Birkenstocks (sandals) STINK, help

My Birkenstocks stink. One day last week my feet started sweating like mad (sorry about the details:o ) & they stank by the time I got home from work.
For anyone thats unfamilar with them, I'm pretty sure the sole (or at least the layer of the sole that touches the foot) is leather. I tried cleaning them with CIF (thats pretty strong stuff) & them spraying them with febrezze, but they still smell.
Now if I wear them they start smelling in no time.
Anyone got any ideas???
I really love/miss them:mad:

Hope i am not stating the obvious, but have you tried using a foot deodorant spray, my skanky old hush puppie toe posts (leather footbed and uppers), were really stinky so i washed them, scrubbed the footbed with a scouring pad, i used washing up liquid, rinsed them well and part dried them outside then left them on top of a radiator, they look like new and no smell.0

I didn't use foot deodrant spray.
But I would have thought scrubbing the insides with CIF stronger than an deodrant spray.
Perhaps mine are worse:o
I will try scrubbing them again.
Can they be soaked??
Has anyone ever put them in the washing machine??0 -
My sons trainers stink so a friend suggested i sprinkle bicarbonate of soda and leave them overnight as this is a natural deodoriser another thing she suggested was cat litter stupid i know but it worked for my sons trainers i also left them outside for a while.0
