I have managed to switch from fabric softner to vinegar/ bicarb mix. It is decanted into a (now really battered) old lenor bottle, it is clear, not bright blue but OH still hasn't noticed :shhh:
However, I think it has more to do with the fact that he doesn't know where the washing machine is, let alone the fabric softner, than my cunning :rolleyes:When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt0 -
I decant wine box wine into wine bottles when we have people comming to dinner, partly beacuse I can't stand the sight of a ugly wine box on the table but I also admit it's the snob in me:rolleyes: .
We only have value long life milk & I always decant that into a milk jug when we have guests, mostly as most people seem turn their noses up at cheap long life milk but I've only ever had comments when they see what it is!:p
I used to decant Tesco mayo into a Hellmans jar for hubby but he eventually caught me, now we have compromised, he gets Tescos best own brand light mayo!:o
I always save my Tecso vouchers, Nectar points, lunchen vouchers from surveys & Boots loyalty points to buy Xmas pressies with, I feel no shame in doing this as I wouldn't be able to afford as many of the more expensive gifts like DVD's, CD's etc as gifts if I had to pay out cash for them. I use any leftover points to stock up on generic paper & cards to see us through the year. And I usually buy them in the sales to stretch the points as far as possible. :money:
Many a time I've been complimented on brand name/designer clothing & accepted the compliments without telling people it was second hand from a charity shop. And I have even been known to buy new items as gifts form chairty shops, I don't see the problem if they are new & still cellaphane wrapped etc?Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p
In England we have Mothering Sunday & Father Christmas, Mothers day & Santa Clause are American merchandising tricks:mad: Demonstrate pride in your heirtage by getting it right please people!0 -
I wore a charity shop Monsoon skirt to work yesterday and a colleague said "Oh, I have that skirt too!" I didn't tell her mine was under £3...0

It's not what you paid for it, but what they THINK you paid for it that counts!0 -
I keep telling Mrs Pal that the less she wears, the better she looks, but for some reason she keeps on buying knickers.
Another good moneysaving tip is to agree to use a condom then don't bother. When I was single it used to save me about £3 a year! Bargain!0 -
I bought my MIL's birthday pressie from TJ Hughes a couple of years ago - rrp £80, I paid £13 (it was a watch and matching bracelet set) She wears it all the time and goes on about it. In fact I get most of her stuff from TJ Hughes or similar places - then I can look really generous when in fact I'm saving my cash for my mum, (cos MIL is as tight as a you-know-what, whereas my mum is very generous and I think deserves it more)
I'm lucky - there are quite a few factory shops or catalogue outlet shops near me so I can get fab pressies, usually for friends who don't live near here, for a fraction of the price.
I also have a piece of jewellery that dh bought me for a special birthday. We couldn't afford a lot, but no-one else knows it's 'fake' - they think I've got such an expensive item and we must have saved for ages. I don't care - I love it anyway and would worry about losing it if it was real0 -
So, Pal, how much do you get in child benefit each week0
-
None! But now you mention it, I've got this funny rash...
Does anyone know if vinegar will work for that as well?0 -
As a counterpoint to this thread, I always find that leaving the iron on my expensive shirts for too long soon makes them look like I bought them from a charity shop.
Anyone else got any ideas for how they can spend lots of money while making themselves look like a skinflint/old style money-saver?0 -
