    8% is still too low. The critical yield is likely to be into double digits. Expecting double digits nowadays is too much of a risk.

    Why do you think an IFA is going to make anything at all. As they are not actually investing the money. The fund managers are.

    I foolishly thought an IFA would be advising on the investments.
    Thats what the one I know does.

    You are correct in that the IFA advises on the investments that should be used. This may include secotor allocation and the choice of fund manager. However, the IFA is not responsible for the investment returns. They will be what they will be and its the fund manager/fund house that is responsible for those.
