Bad thunderstorm the other morning, so I unplugged everything.....perhaps too late, but plugged everything back in after it had passed......all working except the HDMI inputs on my Panasonic TX-P50GT50B don't work at all. It was suggested that I use the "Shipping condition" setting, but no luck. The TV works fine on Freeview and Freesat....scart works ok as does the internet......It seems strange that just the HDMI's would die and everything else work if it was a power surge. Could it be a simple setting or re-set that needs doing, or is it a blown component and megabucks
Please help, everything that was plugged into the HDMI's are still working ok as I tried them on anther TV.
Thanks for listening.........desperate !!!!!

What are you plugging into the HDMI sockets? is it a Sky box?
Have you a PC you can plug the TV into to test?
*NOTE*
HDMI sockets do have a small voltage running through them. It's possible that a short happened when you unplugged a device from the TV.
It happened to me with a Blu-Ray player i got a few years back. Worked fine when I initially tested it and when I unplugged it to move it to it's permanent location, I saw a small short happen at the HDMI socket, then the player was dead!Laters

Thanks for reply.
I have hd skybox, dvd player and an android box plugged into three of the four HDMI sockets.
I hadn't unplugged any of the HDMI leads, I just unplugged everything from the mains and took out all the aerial and dish co-ax leads so as far as I knew, the TV and everything still connected into it were isolated from anything external.0 -
Anybody help please ?0

The thunderstorms have been very selective if they've only taken out HDMI ports. Well assuming you've returned it to factory condition, and that there are no firmware updates available for the TV, I would certainly be suggesting unplugging everything from the TV, even the power lead, and leaving it for, say, 24 hrs. Plug things back in, starting with power, one at a time and test.
If that doesn't work and something HDMI has gone, it could just be one board on the TV and therefore not as expensive as you might think.
avforums.com will surely be able to give you more specific advice from users like yourself on this popular TV.0 -
Thank you almillar, I'll give that a try..........I did post on the AV forum but I think I'm too much of a technophobe to get understandable help .....way over my head.....Too thick I'm afraid.
If you have any other thoughts I'd be most grateful !0 -

Thanks, no real helpful replies from avforums I'm afraid......see here......https://www.avforums.com/threads/tx-p50gt50b-hdmi-problem-please-help.1910984/
I probably don't know how to describe what has happened other than what I've already stated.
SOlitaire on this thread mentioned plugging a PC into my TV, but I've no idea what I'd do then.......cheers0 -
Unplugging/ replugging things in is never a desirable thing to do as this itself can create shorts/ surges etc. If you are worried about thunderstorms etc then get a half decent surge protector and plug all your valuable electronics into that. Most decent ones also come with ports for protecting your phoneline aeriel etc
To your current problem, how old is the TV? I know the GT50 was released just over 2 years ago.
I'd drop the reference to thunderstorms and contact the retailer you bought it from saying that the items become faulty and the HDMI ports have all suddenly stopped working one day after turning everything on. You may get into some arguments as to 12 month warranty etc but SOGA effectively gives you a reasonable life and not a set 12 month period. The downside is that SOGA also says you have to prove the fault after 6 months but most retailers prefer their own guys to do the inspections etc.
Thankfully in many cases the HDMI ports are on their own board and so if it has failed then it many not be TOO expensive to fix0 -
Thanks for your reply...........I actually only unplugged the tv, sky box, dvd player and android box from the mains, then the aerial co-ax from the tv and the shotgun cables from the sky box........the hdmi cables remained connected at all times.....I thought I'd just isolate everything from outside !
I do have a surge protector but stupidly only just bought and still in the box......That's why I rushed to unplug it all....Doh!!!0 -
Different make but my Samsung had a simpler problem, what threw me and the very helpful Virgin media engineer was that the TV still displayed the starting up message from the Virgin box.
Sorted the problem out with an online search and removing every cable and connector, left it for 20 mins and plugged it all in again, hey presto it worked and has since.0
