WONGA lent me more than they advertised!

Options
Wonga advertised that you could borrow up to £1000. However they lent me £1200 they did this for 2+years. I am currently with step change and its all being paid off over 5 years.
I'm lucky enough to be one of they few who's just found out that they are wiping my current debt. That said I've now got a handle on things and I just wondered if anyone has ever claimed back money from them due to them over lending FOR SUCH A LONG PERIOD? I worked out that if I gave them just under £12000 in the whole time I was with them and also with payday loans wage day advance NIGHTMARE!
Anyone shed any light on this? It would be like claiming back on a bank loan I'm thinking. I would have loved for Martin Lewis to have commented on this but the guys like a ghost!:money:

you're obviously not that observant then as he has been quite clear on Wonga....
Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked
  • Did they lend you £1200 or was that what you repaid once interest was added?

I have a feeling that them wiping your outstanding debt was in recognition if their poor affordability checks so you would be unable to reclaim further from them, but in the compensation culture of today I'm sure you'll give it a go anyway!

Well done for accepting some financial responsibility, it's so rare these days and lovely to see!

As you build up trust then they would lend you more - it's not something they're likely to advertise.

Regardless of other peoples opinions you have every right to make a complaint if you feel it is warranted, Wonga market their loans as being payday loans and not being suitable as a long term financial solution - I would think that after 6 months they should have done the responsible thing and offered assistance after recognising the pattern of lending.

You borrowed, and you repaid what you borrowed plus interest - you took your share of the responsibility and I think they should do the same.

Wonga can lend you any amount they want, if its less that £25000 it will fall under the CCA.
  • I bet you were heartbroken that they would lend you more than £1k!

Fortunately the op's ability to make an adult decision on borrowing has now been removed.

op will have to find a grown up to help in future.
