migration lost period increase?

Hi, I hope someone can help. we have a breakdown of accounts, it details '£1029.04 increase migration lost period'
can anyone explain what this is please? I have googled, but have not found an answer. if it helps, he had one case used in the old system, then a new case started from 2003 onwards.they were both migrated to the new system, but surely they can't backdate to the start of the case from the old system?
