Can't get broadband connection

A relative has signed up with talktalk a month ago, and after a lot of trouble with them he still can't get connected to broadband
He has spent a lot of time on the phone to talktalk and they say his setting are right, he is getting very up set as it has cost a lot of money, what with having to use a mobile phone for 2 weeks because they disconnected him from BT and then did not connected him to their exchange, and paying for the Broadband that he can't use.
The only thing I can see that might cause this is that he has installed the PC in his upstairs spare room and has run a lead all the way up from his living room, is it possible that this is the cause of not being able to get on line. I said to bring the PC downstairs and he will know if that is the cause but he say's it can't be. Any ideas please.

what are the symptoms? does he have a filter on all phones, and one on the extension lead. Moving it downstairs, and cutting out the extension lead is a sensible thing to tryEver get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

First thing that came to my mind was a filter problem as well. Either faulty one or more than one connected in series."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

You said the line was migrated from BT but not whether you had broadband on the line before. If you did have broadband there before the length of the cable or indeed the cable itself is unlikely to be the problem unless a significant amount of time has elapsed in which case it's not impossible that damage may have occurred somewhere.
Sorry to be obvious, but has your 'Go Live' date passed? I ask only because one of our lines is supposed to be 'live' but the online order checker at https://www.talktalk.co.uk shows "Modem should be sent to you shortly".
Incidentally the modem reports both the ADSL link and PPP as connected yet there is no broadband, and the modem is not receiving a MAC address.
I would cut out the middle men and call 02086174697 on Monday. This is the number for the high level complaints team who can get things moving along quickly. I only suggest going to the top because you're saying this has gone on for a long time and you're clearly getting nowhere, and the CS people clearly aren't helping. Also, there may very well be an issue with the line itself, something to do with the migration.

One thing I know is that TT always tell you to connect the modem to the primary phone socket and see if it works there.0

if you have got a router then take it to you master socket and plug it in. whether or not it is attached to your pc the light should come on to say it is connected to the network.
if you have a modem then err....
or if you know someone with a spare wireless router then plug that in and see if you can connect to it with a mobile or pda.0
