maternity allowance

I have just done my last day and officially started maternity allowance.

I have not yet had an award notice how much I will get or anything. My employer assures me they have applied for it.

Who can I write to to confirm it and get a figure how much I will get?
Is it the DWP? If so which department please, would anyone be able to give me the email address?

  • Your employer doesn't apply for maternity allowance. An employer pays statutory maternity pay (which they can then recover some or all of from HMRC).

If you weren't entitled to that then you would look at the criteria for maternity allowance from DWP.

Can you clarify which one you want to know about statutory maternity pay from your employer or maternity allowance from DWP?

its the one for low earners maternity allowance from DWP.

If its maternity allowance then you have to fill in the claim form and submit it. If it's SMP then your employer does it and pays it to you.

    its smp Im going for,

how can I confirm its all going ahead, I have asked my employer they said we have applied, but when will I know if I have got it?

Is there an email at dwp I can ask?
  • are you sure the employers pay it? I thought the government did?
  • I have worked out 90% of my wage is £115.20 a week.

So I just have to wait, because my employer told me to be patient. But I just wanted a confirmation that I will get it and how much.

I hear the government do pay it these days, otherwise employers are reluctant to employ young women of childbearing age.

You should also get paid it in your normal pay run - so if it starts being due now, you'd get it in the Oct payroll run (and get 2-3 weeks worth)
