Customer complaint

From what you posted it sounds like you did very well with the customer, you did what you were trained to do. Ive seen some checkout staff with a small pot of water (just noticed already been mentioned) just to dampen the fingers to open the bags, maybe this would be of use to you. The customer sounds like a right !!!.0

Just because someone complains doesn't mean you've done anything wrong. All you might get from your employer is a request not to lick your fingers prior to opening a bag for a customer. I know you say you didn't lick your finger but the customer may have thought you did.
Personally, I wouldn't lose any sleep about it.0 -
I'm sorry, but if anyone was serving me and had their finger in their mouth, for whatever reason, I wouldnt stand for it, I'd be asking for a new bag too. But i am a bit germ obsessive

And if he really was allergic to saliva he'd have pretty big problems in life wouldnt he?!
ETA It sounds as though you dealt with the whole situation very well

Some people are germaphobes but these people do realise that it's their problem and not the other person like yourself that has licked their finger or breathed on it.

There is CCTV but it doesn't record audio. No witnesses. Manager only came after I ran the bell because customer wanted to complain. I think I was polite to this customer. I don't agree breathing to my finger transmit saliva but if a customer request me not to do that I'd oblige. I did politely ask twice if he wanted the receipt but he just ignored me and didn't respond even when I said bye. My manager supports me but I'm not sure what will happen after the customer writes to our head office.
Maybe no audio but by watching the recording of the incident you may be able to see the actions of the customer.0 -

What?
I'm not a germaphobe, but I would take exception having to deal with some creepy guy licking his fingers.Hope over Fear. #VoteYes0
