Ebay - don't know what to do ?

I sold a dress / tunic on eBay - photographed it clearly and described it. Outlined it was see through etc

Anyway purchaser has just responded and said its lovely but where is the internal slip that usually goes with the dress? I had no idea a bit was missing - obviously I didn't photo or refer to a missing piece. I got the clothes off my friend - who has no idea.

I've responded with the above and just awaiting a reply

Dress was almost £25 - what should I do ? Offer to take back? Offer to refund half or not offer

Thanks ebay experts :)

Either send the slip or offer a Full Refund once return.

You can also offer a free returns label for your customer via Parcel2go [if you've got an email address that has NOT been used with them before], using code FIRSTFREE

You have the customers postcode to check for the local drop-shops & Check with the customer that it is OK & email them the PDF label to print out & send it back

    I don't agree

If the dress was described as see through and no reference made to a separate 'slip' in the listing, then the item is as described.

You don't have to refund or accept a return. The dress was clearly described and the photo showed what you get. If the buyer thought there was a slip with it then they should have contacted you before hand to check.

The only problem is that if the buyer opens a not as described case then Ebay could force you to accept a return and pay for that return and you get a defect.

Personally I would ask them to return it at their cost, refund them once it has returned, block them and then sell it again. You might want to mention there is no slip with it depending if you can find out if there is or not. If the dress is see through then it probably came with a slip for obvious reasons.

It's a good idea to say in listings that the item is what is in the photograph.

It might not help in this case, but may be worth including in the future.

Explain the situation to the buyer and ask what they want to do. They may be happy keeping it with a part refund or returning it for a full refund.

Ok sorted - I refunded £9 and I'm more than happy with that as I never expected to achieve the price I did. Buyer is happy and left great feedback. I'm a new seller so can't risk damaging my account. Thanks for the very helpful replies guys :)

I would always resist giving partial refunds, give a full refund on return only.
You get a lot of buyers who try it on & ask for a partial, especially if you're a new seller.

  • Looks like they were a buyer who played nice - it can often work out differently when they realise you will do anything to protect your star rating..

To be fair they had a lot of good feedback as seller and buyer and seemed genuine. I can imagine I will come across some not so nice people as well.
