Where to buy a sofa?

Besides the 10 year old argos sofa we currently own, we have never bought a new sofa. We are now in the market for a new leather corner sofa.
So where are the best places to buy a sofa? Where to avoid? Any key questions to ask? Any key features to look for?
Thanks in advance!

Budget? If you want decent leather you will have to pay for it.
For research go to a store which sells brands such as G plan, Stressless, Parker Knoll, Duresta and ask sales staff what the differences are between a leather sofa at £300 and one at £3,000.0 -
We could spend up to £3k. And happy to if there is a good reason to. But we dont want to spend £3k if there isn't a lot if difference to one for £1.5k.
It is go be a family sofa, young kids about, and want it to last and look good and still feel comfy in 5/10 years time...0 -
I looked at a lovely Cintique sofa in our local furniture shop but it was over £1000 and we couldn't afford it. Later we found exactly the same sofa in the hospice charity shop and we bought it for £110. It was almost new.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0

If you are near London, worth a look at sofa.com, off the Kings Road. Lots of ads in the magazines.
Lovely showroom to visit and you can take your time. Lovely staff. We bought two green velvet sofas last year (called the Saturday sofa if I remember correctly) and have been very pleased with them. Standing up well to three grandchildren. Can't remember if they do leather but worth checking.0 -
I bought a two and a three seater (leather) from scs about five years ago and after just over two they started to sag through only light use and they're really u comfy now, so DONT go there.
I think with sofas, you really get what you pay for.0 -
We have now settled on a sofa from Furniture Village. Has anyone had any luck with haggling with them? Just trying to work out if it is possible / what level of discount we might be able to get?0

Hi
I purchase a corner sofa from SCS same situation as you, after 2 years there is no support in the sofa and I've complained and not getting anywahere. I purchased the guardsman cover which is a waste of time.
So I'm stuck no, hitting the brick wall and dont know what to do other than bin the sofa.0
