Being asked to take holiday allowance from next year's leave

Just got back to this.
There are no redundancies in the offing, and nor is it a zero hours contract.
Having trawled through the contract there isn't anything to say that it is variable in this sense.
I'm actually not inconvenienced because I'd already booked the days off and have saved leave for the time. Only one of my staff members is having to borrow leave.
The co has offered the chance to use flexible working to make up one of the three days. We are not allowed to carry unused leave over which is why many people have used theirs up ahead of the end of the leave year (Dec).
The reasons for shutdown is genuine and not due to a lack of work, it's because we are a support company, and the sector we support is not working at that time of year either.
Indeed, all will get the statutory allowance for hols next year but I wasn't aware that you can carry forward/back as needs be.
Thanks for all replies.
I was aware of the ability to carry forward up to 8 days (1.6 weeks) as long as both parties to the employment contract agree.
I have never heard of bringing forward statutory leave and would not expect it to be mentioned in legislation.
The company MAY be leaving themselves open to claims of not allowing full statutory holiday entitlement in 2015 but it is their risk not the employees.0 -

This is what needs pointing out as anyone leaving during the year would have a relatively easy claim.
If the company gives more that statutory then there is less of an issue.0 -

Am I the only one that feels the OP is the underhanded type of manager that gets slated on here??
As you can see from the quote above, she knew this was coming so had planned ahead yet the other staff are only just getting told and therefore may lose out on full entitlement next year as their leave was booked at other times earlier in the year, or they have to take 3 days unpaid leave which most families can't afford (especially this close to xmas).
Sure, you can legally make them forward 3 days leave from next year or take it as unpaid leave but I think you are appalling as a manger as you have known and therefore 'not been inconvenienced' by the closure yet you expect your staff to just sit back and take it on the chin. Glad you're not my boss, I don't just roll over and take things lightly, and I hope your staff give you aggro over this because I think you've acted disgustingly.0 -

It only says the OP had booked holidays. That's a fairly common occurrence at Christmas! I cannot see where she says she already knew. She does actually say the company has just announced.....
She also hasn't just "rolled over" she's checking the legalities of the situation for her staff not for herself as she already had leave booked.0
