Flying tomorrow - nervous!

Flying to Dublin tomorrow for work, flying home Friday.
Any (sensible i.e. not alcohol!) ways to keep calm? Tried rescue remedy last time I flew, Barcelona 2 years ago, which didn't work. Really getting into a panic about it!
Thanks

Just think: people fly every day, and cabin crew and pilots fly numeroud times a day and they're not scared, so why should you be?
If you don't think about it, you won't panic. You may even find you enjoy it, as my OH did a couple of weeks ago. He was terrified, I talked him through it and he realised that its actually quite fun!0 -
Just googled and found this site...
http://www.anxieties.com/flying-howsafe.php#.VDUYrmddXHs
Has some good statistics and tips.
Don't accidentally turn on Nat Geographic Channel and watch Air Crash Investigation! Although if you do - you will also realize how rare accidents are, and how the airline industry works to learn lessons from every single one.
If only hospitals worked in the same way to improve safety, rather than trying to deny and cover up all mistakes! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
Thanks

I know it's an irrational fear, but I just hate everything about flying!
My OH's dad is an engineer for BA and his uncle is a pilot, yet I'm still nervous! 0 -
What solved my fear, was to fly more often
I still get a bit apprehensive on take off and landing but I'm now used to the noises and feelings so deep breathe through them
It's a very short flight. Time you take off and had a cup of tea, the crew are getting ready for landing0 -
I'm sure you don't hate everything about flying. What exactly is it that makes you anxious? Do you have the same anxieties on a bus?0

The only thing you need to be concerned about on a plane is recycled germsBlackpool_Saver is female, and does not live in Blackpool0

No one particulalry likes take off and landing, last time I flew I looked around and near enough everyone had a worried face, but thats because it was raining and in wet weather, landing is always rough because of the wet surface.
The only reason you're scared of it, is your own thoughts.0 -
I hate the take off (as I'm sure most people do). I don't mind the landing so much...I know it means I'll be getting off the plane
I find the feeling of your stomach dropping one of the worst things. It makes me jump even if there's a slight bump/movement of the plane. I really hate all the getting to the airport hours before etc as it makes me even more anxious. I also dislike being crammed in and feel a bit claustrophobic that I cant get out. When we flew home from Baracalona we got stuck on the runway at Heathrow for about an hour and it was awful! It's just the whole experience that makes me feel terrible
I know all the stats and that it's the safest way to travel, but I just really don't like it! Ergh! 0 -

OK, so you've had some annoying experiences, it can all be a bit longwinded and easy to get fidgety when you're bored. But when you read that back, there's nothing to actually panic about. Take off gives you a funny feeling, so does going on a fair ride or along a bumpy road - none of which are going to kill you. The whole airport process takes time, that's a hassle, but no harm done. Sitting on a cramped plane ain't the nicest, even worse you could get a fatty next to you, but you'll get off at the other end safe and well, maybe with a numb bum.
Now tell us again why you get anxious about flying?

NEVER go on rides, funfair especially! Can't stand them lol
Hopefully I'll be sitting next to a work colleague which should help, never been on a plane without friends/family before.
I haven't had much time to think about it, so I hope that helps
