Hi All,
I am trying to find out how to burn photos onto DVD for people to look at but to protect them so that it isn't possible to print them from the DVD or copy them off. Does anyone know if this is possible and if so what software am I looking for? I have had a look around the internet but whilst encryption seems to sound like a possible option it seems to mean that if you know the code you can do what you want with the contents otherwise you can do nothing at all which isn't what I want! Thankyou.

I don't think it'll be that easy (you'll need something with a built in viewer on top of copy protection software which aren't that effective and normally just annoy consumers), even if you found something there's nothing to stop people just taking a screenshot of a displayed photo. I think your best bet is just relying on your legal rights and pursue anyone found copying or distributing your photos (assuming they are yours)."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

If there were such a thing, don't you think the big film companies would be using it now and piracy would now be obselete? No there, is nothing that will stop people from copying data from a DVD effectively.
The only thing i can think of that is a sort of thing you are looking at is you could put watermarks across your movies/photos and then if that person wants to buy the items then you send them a dvd with the watermarks removed.0 -
Probably not of use, but... ; http://www.nero.com/eng/showpress.php?id=10150

As said above there is always some way of takeing prints from images.
The way I would do it is rather than useing a PC based peice of software to display the images encode a photo slideshow and convert it to a DVD so the slideshow is played on a DVD player and TV rather than a PC.
it will still be possible to print the images but they will be lower quality and not somthing that really could be sold on.0 -

As you dont say what you are using the photos for its a bit hard to give advice.. If you are a proffesional photographer then some kind of watermark might be of use or buy Adobe Acrobat and create a photoalbum that can be locked although this can be quite easily broken if you know how. The other option is to make smaller lower quality images for people to look at then if they want them they would have to pay for the larger better quality.0 -
Thanks for all the replies people, guess there is no simple answer!:beer:0

There are a few things you can do that have been sugested but if someone wants to use the images then they will find a way.
The thing to do is watermark the images with text or a copyright message accross them so they are unuseable. as a saleable item. but someone could remove the watermark with photoshop. you get around to this is to make the photos an unuseable quality for print thumbnails are good but can be too small if your customers are older.
watermarked photos on a dvd slide show offer the best option. they need a dvd to play the disk but can be done in a PC with dvd playback images need to be captured from the dvd and quality will be low and watermarked.0 -
The guy that did our wedding photo's gave us a dvd to look through and pick the pics we wanted, It was a complete pain in the !!! as they changed too quickly to really take the pic in, they weren't great quality and the chapter listing didn't seem to match up with the photo's properly. I'd have preferred to have the photo's in a jpeg format watermarked for his protection but easily identifiable.0

THere is a program called ProShow Gold that will convert all your images to a DVD movie with transitions, chapters, menus etc. You can insert background music, and even small movies from your digicam. I think you can get a free trial for 30days but it costs something like $80 ot buy. I think it's worth it.
You can also set it to stop working either after a certain time or after a certain number of plays.
Images cannot be copied from it because it is a movie, not a series of images.
It's really easy to use aswell.

Don't waste your time trying. Not even the likes of Warner Brothers can protect their movies from being copied when released on DVD with all the dvd cracking software available, what chance do you think you stand?
If someone wants the images off your CD/DVD, they can do a google search and find a way within minutes.
If you want to protect images, just print them out for hard copy viewing as that way it's good as safe as scanning it and enlarging it wont be as good quality. It's your best solution.0
