Central heating isn't working

Hi
I was wondering if anyone can help, having problems trying to get the central heating to come on after being off over the summer. The hot water is working, the heating is turned on continually and the stand-alone thermostat has been turned up. The pilot light doesn't seem to be on the boiler, I took the front panel off and turned the dial which I don't really know what it does but goes from low to high, when I turned it from low to 3 the pilot light came on and then went off again. I've turned it high and it didn't do anything. We have also changed the batteries in the stand-alone thermostat also but still nothing. If anyone has got any advise it would be appreciated, the property is rented and the landlord has said before this happened that they are going to service the boiler but in the meantime if we can sort it any help would be great. It's a Baxi powered flue solo boiler.

ask the landlord when the boiler was last serviced as it should have been done within the last 12 months.

make sure the landlord gets a gas safe engineer out to service it.just in case you need to know:

Do you have a motorised valve?
Possibly in the airing cupboard.![danfoss-motorised-valve-1062-p[ekm]80x80[ekm].jpg](http://www.plumbargain.co.uk/ekmps/shops/plumbonline/images/danfoss-motorised-valve-1062-p[ekm]80x80[ekm].jpg)
If so this will be a temporary fix until the actuator head or microswitch is replaced.
