Barclays / woolwich are they picky?

OP - the brokers can't name lenders here as it could be seen as leading.
Why don't you see a broker and have a chat about what other options there are?0 -

We were in a similar situation to you when we applied to the Woolwich around 7 years ago. My wife had very variable earnings but it didn't seem a big issue as my earnings seemed to be sufficient.
The sales people were fine but once we started dealing with the processing things slowed down a bit. We also had to go into a branch of Barclays with some documentation which they managed to lose the first time around so it involved a second trip.
I'd look at Barclays again if I needed another mortgage.0 -
Earlier this year I tried to remortgage to Barclays/Woolwich and they completely ignored my secondary income (annual bonus, child maintenance, and child benefit) - even though my bank account was with Barclays and they could see the 12-month history of my income and expenses. They did, however, consider my childcare expenses -- which essentially meant they couldn't give me the mortgage I was after.
So I stayed with my current lender.
PS. I was at 70% LTV with impeccable credit history and no debt, aside from the mortgage...Single mother working full-time. Mortgage slave. Credit card debt-free wannabe.0 -
It appears that the problem is not Barclays per se, but complication in underwriting your case which you do not have the knowledge to handle.
Asking on here will give you some generic answers a bit like pieces of jigsaw minus the picture.
Engage a broker, even if you just pay them to tell you how to handle the Barclays application.I am a Mortgage Broker

For anyone who may be interested in a update to this - we went with Post Office in the end and it was all really straightforward and we have our offer now after just 9 working days. Super service and no painful long phonecalls or uneccessary delays! After all that worrying too - I just sent explanations for every anomaly and it was fine.0
