Mountain bike: what is this plastic piece for?!

I've had my mountain bike for almost 3 years now, and I've still no idea what the pair of little red bits of plastic are that came with it!

The plastic piece has the word "ROTATION" printed on both sides. On on side it also says ">PA-GF 30<", and on the other it says "AVID PS-H06".

In case it helps, the bike I have is a b'Twin RockRider 8.1, details here:

And I've taken a photo of the mystery piece here:

Any ideas, anyone?! I'm stumped!

Ah, thanks. Google wasn't being friendly to me!

After a bit more searching, I've found some videos and guides that show how to adjust the brakes... but none of them mentions the "disk brake adjusting tool".

Any idea how it's supposed to be used...?
  • Have a search on Youtube - there are loads of good 'fixing bits of bike' videos.
    It's only numbers.

It's like buying furniture from Ikea, it comes in a flat pack and they give you the basic tools you need to build it..............

But your own tools are always better and faster ;)

Looks me like either a tool for aligning the dicsc brake calipers whn you fit them or a spacer to stop the pads falling out when the bike in the box with the wheels off.

Edit: setting google translate on the above link indicates that they are indeed transport spacers, to ensuethat any accidental activaton on the brake in transit dosen't leave the gap too small to get the wheel back in.

But there's nothing even similar to the "adjustment tool" being used in the videos... :-/

The only adjustments shown are to loosen the bolts holding the calliper unit to the frame, adjust its position until the disc doesn't rub against it, then re-tighten the screws.

The plastic "adjustment tools" I have look like they would clip in between the brake pads (possibly)... but to do that, I'd have to remove the wheel and disc... and I've no idea what I'd do then other than stare at a useless bit of plastic clipped to my bike!

Surely someone, somewhere knows what the tool does!

    Exactly as above

Ahhhh! You genius!!! :T That makes sense! And it explains why I got two of them!

I'll sleep soundly tonight -- I'd been trying to work out what they were for for years! :o
