Tuesday 7th October - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym .

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending .

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important :money:

Thanks for starting the thread Ziggy. Sorry to hear that you are poorly :( Hope you feel better soon.

I feel a bit migraine-y and yucky today, so am taking it a bit easier than usual.

    So far I have:
Hoovered downstairs in case DD appears with crawling baby GD
Washing pegged out on the line
Spicy parsnip soup cooking for lunch - uses up bendy parsnips and some stock that needed using :)

    Still to do:
Strip off spare bed and wash bedding as sister in law is coming to stay this weekend.
Do some paperwork for small business
Dinner will be more of the huge pot of chilli I made yesterday. Just need to heat it up and cook some jacket potatoes to go with it.

Hope everyone has a good day :)

    Hi all,

I've made packed lunch today to save money on buying lunch at work.
I'm also shopping for a few more bargains for the Christmas hampers I'm making for family members to cut the cost of presents.

Have a good day everyone :)

I have made up 60% of my christmas presents for people out of bargins/stashed items from the months gone by...I don't remember spending much on them as it was 50p here, £1 there....but finally got it sorted onto a list so I don't buy anymore!!

I am having veg soup for my lunch...not homemade but it was 30p reduced yesterday. Should stretch for tomorrows lunch as well as it is a big carton :D Going to use the last bits of bread we have (dated 05/10) and that was also reduced to 35p :D

Also, i have opted for putting on a dressing gown, having cup of tea and utilising the moggys heat instead of putting the heating on. I don't see the point in october for one person :)

Ziggy - thanks for starting us off. I hope you feel better soon. The rag wreaths sound interesting. Have you got a pic?

Feeling relatively well today so another list

    • Check online banking and reconcile against spreadsheet
    • Car MOT £264 - £68 left in the car kitty :)
    • Get OH to do some extra household tasks
    • Chat to OH about keeping heating off

    Small list but important :)

    Have a good one all

  • Hello all
Still feeling grotty today but am dosed up and at work. Had free mug of tea at break - don't fancy coffee. Just about to eat packed lunch - salad which needed using up (would have preferred soup tbh). Still on the detective case trying to work out what went wrong with gas bill - I am now thinking we may actually be in credit (not a huge deficit) but need to make sure my numbers are right before I get too excited!
Well it had to be done - got my hot water bottle out last night. Something good about snuggling down after work and all the jobs with a good book.
    Best wishes all x

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Good morning all
It's lovely & sunny today. Have been out shopping. I'm trying to limit us to two shops of £20 a week, plus a few pounds (literally) for bread & milk if needed. Since we don't have the car a £20 shop is the most I can carry on my back home anyway.
I make a list before I go & try to make sure I have 3 evening meals planned from the ingredients. Today I bought a 2.5k bag of chicken pieces for £4 as part of the spend which is a huge bargain considering a whole 1.5k bird costs £4.50
I am baking a sponge cake, & heating up my lunch in the same oven as we speak. Have made sweet potato soup for me & OH tonight and little man will have some of the chicken I mentioned.
I sold the Converse I mentioned yesterday for £13 in the end. Plus £5 postage. Total profit should be around £15.
I also managed to track down who that cheque was issued by. I'm getting my marriage cert photocopied today & then that can go off to them so they can reissue it in my new name.
I think we will have brought in about £150 in side hustles by the end of the month.
Big god news was my husbands work have confirmed he will recieve payment whilst on jury leave. We were both so worried about that.

Ziggy - hope you feel better soon you poor thing.
Kitty - I'm loving cat heat as a concept. Make them earn their keep hey :)
    Dawn - now I want chilli & jackets :)
Blue - the hamper idea is brilliant. May nick that if you don't mind.
Shoot - what's the coat? I will keep an eye out on my ebay travels if you like.
Carrie - we are holding out on the heating front too. Hoping we can last till half term. That's worryingly only 2 weeks time!

    Bye all

    Greetings Frugal Friends,
*Saved a bit of energy by sharing bath tub, switching off dehumidifier as soon as condensation had cleared & not putting any heating on.
*Box of free cereal bars arrived in post for testing.
*Mr f on a course today & is being fed there for free.
    *Make tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Made bread dough, now proving, for rolls & pizza.
*Put knitting right. Was so impressed with knowing lots of answers on University Challenge last night, I didn't notice I was knitting 3 rows of complete nonsense. Grrr.
-Project Prepare for Winter will be ongoing for the next 2 weeks. I've divided it up loosely into house jobs, garden jobs, food/pantry/freezer jobs, sorting out the present box as lots of winter birthdays as well as Christmas, winter wardrobe/clothes jobs & 'staying healthy' jobs. Today was another food/pantry day:
*Turned another bucket of windfall apples into apple & ginger chutney.
*Peeled big bowl of little onions & got them into their 2nd lot of brine, ready for pickling later this week.
*Must decide what to do with the rest of the pears, as they are ripening faster than we can eat them.......& we're already eating 2 to 3 a day each.
    OK, onwards,
