Catalogue Admin Charge

H there,
I bought a few things from Empire Catalogue and when my statement came I sent a cheque for the full amount.
About a week later they sent my cheque back because I hadn't signed it - they also said they are charging me £15 administration costs - is there any way I can get out of paying it?

Hi im a customer for littlewoods catalogue and they have gone all out to get me to pay for something i never asked for!
In total i ordered 300 pounds of stuff from them,i have paid them for this down to the last penny when a few weeks ago they sent me a statement saying i owe them £111:78 i was in shock!.......
i telephoned them to find out what was going on and they say that the money owed is for the extra care advantage that i have had since start of account......i asked them what it was and they say its if you fall ill and can not work they will cover your payments i told them ive never worked and not currently working so why would i ask for it, besides that i didn't even know about this until they told me on the phone!.....Also they charged me 3x admin charges in less than 2wks! NOT even my credit card can do that!
I NEED DESPERATE HELP PLEASE as i am not prepared to pay for a service i didnt know about let alone ask for it!They telephone me at least 5x a day now asking me when im going to pay.
SURELY THEY CANT DO THIS?0 -
Just a note for consideration: I recently read on the CAG site that not all catalogure/credit agreement companies are playing ball legally. I drafted a letter from the site and sent it to JD Williams whom had been billing me for £134.20. I wrote to them on many occassions asking what this amount was for as I had no recollection of this amount. They just kept on telling me pay up or going to court! SO I sent this letter which requests a signed copy of the original credit agreement (stating all the legal terms). They wrote today sayin that they had closed their files as their client had confirmed that the document is not available.
Please therefore look closely into any amounts you are being asked/chased for.0 -
It's not unheard of for these people to require you to opt out of payment protection insurance rather than opt in.
A bit different, but I once got a House of Fraser card because I got 10% off some rather large purchases, I intended to pay in full when my bill arrived, I told the lady in the store that this was what I was going to do. She went through the application form and then asked me to sign. Unfortuantely I missed the section where she had ticked that I wanted payment protection insurance. When I got my first bill this extra charge was on here, I phoned and said I did not ask for this cover. They said they would remove it and I should just pay for the good I purchased. Next month the bill arrives with charge on there plus interest, plus another months charge (based on outstanding balance). I phoned again, they said sorry and the charge would be removed. Next month same again, bill arrives with extra charge, plus interest, plus penalty charge for not making minimum payment the previous month. Got rather cross and this point and phoned and demanded to speak to a manager. Same story again, very sorry, charges will be removed blah blah blah. Next month bills arrives with same old charges plus some new ones for late payment etc..... I gave up calling and sent a stern letter to their MD demanding action. This finally did the trick.
Moral of the story, they are devious underhand sneaky ********, but do not give in. Refuse to pay these ridiculous charges. Demand proof. Speak to the CAB, speak to their managers, write to their MD. Make an absolute nuisance of yourself.
