    Hung up my suit!
The value of the currency is four times less though? Plus if you bought with a mortgage you have paid out loads of interest to the bankers?

The value of sterling halves every fifteen years or so due to inflation, so a four-fold rise in the value of my asset over less than double that period, and tax free, compensates adequately.

The money I've paid in mortgage fees I will recoup when I downsize. If I had rented, all of that would be dead money, and I'd still have to rent. Also, I have no rent to pay whereas if I had not bought I'd be paying about 1500 quid a month to rent my house.

There really is no logic in renting from cradle to grave.
