Same as most other stores really - they do have some good value stuff, but you need to look at the price not the x% off stickers.
I watched a documentary that showed the Sports Direct items coming off the production line complete with 70% off tags already attached. 70% off nothing because the original price never existed. (These items were all the usual SD brands like Karrimor etc).
  • Yep, the Recommended Retail Price that Sports Direct decide what sounds good with '75% off'

RRP's being inflated is hardly a new concept, nor is it exclusive to SD.

SD has some decent bargains - just base it on the actual price vs. competitors though rather than the RRP.
  • Thanks OP. I bought the Karrimore set. Don't care what the rrp is, it's a bargain at £5.99!

We had Sports Direct when it was Inter Sport in my town, I was at school then so 20 odd years ago and it was a running joke about them always having a closing down sale.

Whilst I think inflated SRP / RRP are a shoddy marketing tactic, the real question for any sale item is 'do you think it's worth the price your are paying?' If the answer is yes, all well and good. If no, well put it back, you're only buying it because you think you're getting a bargain. I bought some chocs at my local store the other week, supposedly on offer but then I found the offer price was the SRP. Was miffed I didn't get the bargain (or feeling of oneupmanship) but in the cold light of day, I was happy at the price I paid for what I got.

Several months ago my local SD were having a "closing down" sale. Signs everywhere.

    Not one reduced price.

Turns out them "closing down" was at 3.59pm on the Sunday and reopening again at 9.05am the following day, having just moved a few racks around

The place totally depresses me. Pile 'em high! (Shudders) just thinking about their stores now! I went into my local store once and it was like an ice box. I mentioned this to one of the assistants and she said that they weren't allowed to have the heating on. They were all wrapped up in Karrimor fleeces!

Some of their goods and prices are good value for money. The "handwritten" price tickets are actually printed. You could always buy from that independant KickBack Sports at similar prices ......... but .........
The KickBack Sports website is operated by SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd. whose registered address is SportsDirect.com Retail Ltd., Unit A, Brook Park East, Shirebrook, NG20 8RY, Company Number: 03406347, VAT Number: GB 898 439743.

They do have some very good items but I do wonder how genuine their 'deals' are sometimes.

Here's an example, a while ago they did a deal with crocs so logged on before the appointed start time, added the items at the sale price and checked out within two minutes. I had an email three days later telling me there was no stock to fulfil the order, so in other words it wasn't there in the first place.

I emailed and asked they could have run out of stock in 2 minutes and was fobbed off, despite the stock still being available at the sale price later the same day.
