Hi
Re: MOISTURE ABSORBING METHODS FOR FOOD CONTAINERS
Can anyone recommend any good moisture absorbing tips for food (savoury biscuit & crisps) storage
e.g.
(a) a tip/method for keeping savoury biscuits dry inside transparent plastic pots
or
(b) recommended moisture absorbing food containers of the transparent plastic pot type.
I ask this as we need to store our "biccies" in a different way, as I have noticed that savoury biscuits we keep in plastic pots seem to go soft very quickly!
I favour tall clear plastic pots for storing most items (incl. savoury snacks & biscuits e.g. Ritz biscuits, Hula Hoops, salted crisps, etc.). The transparency is great as it is easy to see the contents. The plastic is difficult to break. Plus the screw-top lids are secure, & airtight.
Any ideas/recommendations re either:
(i) a way to use our current containers - which are great! - with some kind of crisping 'agent' or method
or
(ii) some (cheap'ish!) clear pots that are good moisture absorbers i.e. that will keep the biccies nice&crisp?!
I came across the following items online that claim to be moisture-absorbing :
[item1:] Large Steel Moisture Absorbing Sweets Biscuits Barrel Storage Tin Cookie Jar NEW
[item2:] Vintage Floral Biscuit Cookie Storage Box Tin Barrel w/ Moisture Absorbing Lid
but neither of these inventions will do for us as:
[item1:] these are NOT transparent and do NOT have a secure screw-on lid.
[item2:] just as for item1 PLUS they do not have a conveniently FLAT lid.
Any great old-style tips out there?!

I have put rice bags in all my containers where the contents need to be kept dry. I cut an old pillowcase into small squares, stitched up 3 sides, filled with rice and then stitched the final edge. They work a treat and keep things like flour, biscuits, cereal etc, nice and dry and crisp.0

I have kept the contents of a large bag of crisps in a zip lock poly bag, for about 4 days and they are still crispy. I squeezed out as much air as possible, before pulling the zip over the last centimetre or so.0

You can buy the biscuit barrel type moisture capsules separately.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Thanks Dixi, re advice: rice 'bags' ideas sounds ideal! That is just the 'old-style' of tip I was hoping to find! :T
BTW, what size are the small bags? e.g. approx. 1 or 2 inches square?? (I want to make sure I make them big enough for the rice to be effective on the biscuit/etc. contents!)APennySaved

Re: Brabantia item: Moisture absorption capsule fot Biscuit Barrel - Aluminium
Great info on the availability of REPLACEMENT Brabantia moisture absorption capsules. I might try this idea in 2 of the larger pots we have (as I'm not sure what size the refills are!)
Thanks :money:APennySaved
