Disciplinary

Hi
I work in social care and recently had to go through interviews at the start of a disciplinary procedure, this was around breech of confidentiality, however after the first interview with HR and the investigating officer the disciplinary procedure was stopped as it was clear that I was not to blame. No other members of my team were ever interviewed.

After I was told the matter was dealt with I was sent an email telling me I had to go to training around information guarding with my manager. After this she decided we should feedback the training to the team in the team meeting.

As we started feedback she started talking about the breech - stopped half wY through saying that I had been pulled in for this- turned to me and asked if it was ok to share. I felt there was no real answer but to say it was ok. She then said I had been disciplined for this matter- not true- before going through the training. For the rest of the day, and today every time I walk into the room someone is talking about the situation and feels the need to give me their opinion on the situation.

Am I wrong or should I have at least been consulted about her telling the team. If she would have asked me before the meeting I would have said no.

Should she have put me in that situation?
Do I have any rights in this situation to not have the team informed of the fact I was involved in the disciplinary procedure?

Thanks

You should have been consulted before she shared. I would ask her to tell the team she was mistaken, no action was taken against you.

I would be flinging in a grievance, she sends you on a course for information guarding and does it herself, I would get her off on one as well, very poor
  • its a bit after the horse has bolted, you should have said no and then kept correcting her if she carried on

As above, prosecute a grievance - this coming from the individual providing training in information guarding, you couldn't make this up.

Why the hell did she find it appropriate to disclose this information in a team meeting environment anyway?
    Don’t be a can’t, be a can.
  • To be honest I felt like it was after the horse has bolted in the meeting- she said that we had both been on 'information compliance' training and then said this was because of the recent breech - as the manager she would have to go on the training as the breech was in her department, but why would I be on it if not that I was investigated. So when she stopped herself and asked if she could share I just panicked and thought it was better if I said yes- so I didn't look more guilty than I am. I obviously thought she would get the facts straight.

But to be honest she could have just done her section about information compliance and not have even mentioned the breech! I didn't think when she said she was putting it on the agenda that she was going to to tell everyone- now every time I walk in a room someone is talking about me!

Plus- I am well aware that the people I work with have no discretion, so I'm pretty sure this will be around the authority in days, and it won't matter that whether I actually breeched anyone's confidentiality or not!
