James please let me know where I can find a personal pension with lower charges than Standard Life's Stakeholder 1% (or 0.9% with a transfer in)

I pay 0.9% and it will drop over time (see http://www.cavendishonline.co.uk/pensions/stakeholder-and-personal-pensions/scottish-life/). My fund is quite small as this is not my core retirement provision.

Your problem is your £50 a month is on the low side for a personal pension. Has that £50 been fixed since you started the pension? It should really be indexed (against inflation or earnings) as its real value will now be rather lower than it was in 2001.

I intend to increase my contributions to my pension by a large amount once I have sorted out my pension provider, I didn't want to increase my monthly contribution till I knew I was on the right track with where to put the money. I will increase possibly up to £200 a month to a new private pension, and keep my NEST pension alongside it (as dunstonh says - its free money from my employer so I have to keep that going and pay in the minimal amount).
