in Cutting tax
Hi all
I started new job 25th August, missed pay cut off for August so got paid for 5 weeks work on 28th September. But I have been taxed on the 0T tax code rather than a normal one. I did hand in my P45 on day 1. My questions are:
1. Will the tax code situation sort itself out or do I need to contact HMRC to arrange it all?
2. In my last job I had my tax code adjusted for washing my company uniform at home. I will do the same in this role. Do I need to contact HMRC to let them know this is the case in my new job?
Many thanks

I would suggest you ask your payroll department why your P45 has not been used yet.
If they are going to use the details from the P45 in your next pay, it will sort itself out assuming you had a proper cumulative tax code on the P45 - what did it say?
If they are not going to use it then you will need to phone HMRC.2. In my last job I had my tax code adjusted for washing my company uniform at home. I will do the same in this role. Do I need to contact HMRC to let them know this is the case in my new job?

If your P45 has a tax code that was using the uniform allowance it will continue if your new job uses that P45. No need to let HMRC know unless you end up calling them because the P45 is still not being used.0 -
1. depends what tax code was on your P45 and why payroll have not yet processed your P45 - why not ask them?
2. a) depends if your uniform costs are different to your previous job, and b) whether the code on your P45 reflected your uniform cost adjustment. If answer is no to a) and/or b) then you need to take it up with HMRC0 -
Thanks both for replying.
p45 had the correct tax code for the year.
I have asked my HR/Payroll dept but they claim they forwarded my P45 to central HR in time to be processed. I have emailed central HR but not had a reply yet, they only deal with emails not calls.
Re the uniform. I have more uniform in this job than last (old job was polo shirts and hoody, this job is everything bar my underwear!!).
Think I shall contact HMRC this week if I have not had a reply from HR by mid week.* Rainbow baby boy born 9th August 2016 *
