DMP - new bank account

Been advised by payplan to open a new bank account before going into DMP as have debts with current bank.

Have got paper work for natwest step account, but noticed they want a recent bank statement showing salary going in. Can they do anything when they notice we currently live in our overdraft? Will they see this as bad and refuse us the account.

Where not going to instruct them to close our current bank account, because of the overdraft as of course where including that in our DMP. I just don't like the idea of them seeing our salary, but then noticing we don't get out of the overdraft at all.

Any tips on how best to go about when switching accounts??

hi, When I set up my basic account with the Abbey they also asked for a copy of my recent bank statements what I couldnt provide as by this time the Halifax had blocked my internet banking account and I was only recieving quartley paper statements. Also of course I did not want them to see that I was living 5k into my overdraft.

In the end I went to the Abbey and sat down with the guy and explained that I wanted to set up there most basic bank account with internet banking. As I was honest he helped me set the account up within an hour.

I dont kknow if the banks can turn you away as I believe everyone has the right to some type of basic bank account although you may get any bells and whistles like debit cards ect. Have you asked payplan for advice on this?

I would just bite the bullet and be honest. If you get turned down then maybe you could apply online for a coop cashminder account? they seem pretty flexible when it comes to opening accounts and I have heard good things about them on this site.

Good luck and let us know how you get on ;)
