Mortgage change rates fee

I am with the Abbey have been for 2 years I now tell them I wish to switch product they offer me a good interest rate but slap £995 on as a new product fee, this should be illegal is it and what can I do about it?

It's not illegal. Don't be silly.
If you want to change products, you have to pay whatever fee your lender asks. If you don't want to pay the fee, stay on the mortgage YOU signed up to in the first place, or remortgage elsewhere.0 -
