Repaid Wonga Loan - can I claim this back?

Options
I got a wonga loan out when I was "in between" jobs and wonga didn't check my employment status.

It was an initial loan of about £400 which rose to £800. Luckily my bank took pity on me & gave me a temporary overdraft to repay them as Wonga was attempting 5 times a day to take money from my bank account with no money in it. So they received £800 approx once that overdraft was in place.

I also got a default on my credit history.

Having just checked my Experian report it states that that default is now considered less significant and my rating has gone up quite abit (which is always nice to see). And it was not due to be removed for 5 years.

So would I be able to claim this money back? Or are they only writing off debts which have not been repaid and the people who have repaid are not entitled to anything back?

Thanks for in advance for any advice.

More than happy to pay what I initially owed them but would quite like to get the interest back at least.

From what I can see it relates to customers currently in arrears, who will be getting balances or interest wiped - nothing to do with paid up customers being given refunds.

Edit: And the MSE story says "Loan repayments already made will not be refunded as part of the move".

How do you know they didn't check?

You didn't tell porkies about employment status on your application, did you? :D:D:D

@OP - It sounds a little bit like you committed fraud to get a loan. I'd keep my head down if I were you.
  • I agree with the others. If the basis of your argument is that you lied to get the loan but they didn't check then you may end up with no refund and a great big fat cifas marker for fraud against you which will mean you may struggle to ever get credit. If you did lie on your application I would let sleeping dogs lie as you may find it bites you in the bum

I find it incredible so many people are coming on here openly admitting they are unable to be trusted to sign a document.

How is it that these people don't appear to be thoroughly embarrassed?

Perhaps to demonstrate how high the IQ, some even seem concerned about credit file entries.

On the one hand openly admit they should never have been trusted enough to fill out an application but on the other hand, "I want my credit file cleaned so I can apply for credit"

You should get a sainthood for such a selfless act.
  • Christ your lot are a presumptuous bunch ain't you.

I didn't commit fraud and as such don't need to let dogs lie. In between jobs means temping so salary varied which they didn't care about or check.

People come on here for advice not for people to be trolling !!!!!.

Before people judge on why they get payday loans when they do it is usually because they are desperate for one reason or another, go figure. A loan provider should be responsible in their lending and check people properly as I also had poor credit rating and wouldn't have been given a loan elsewhere.

If you went to a doctor and said I am desperate hand me some crack cocaine, you doctor wouldn't hand it, over they would be responsible in their role and say no.
  • in between jobs can also mean unemployed.

Was there a box which asked if the job was permanent?

But anyway you mention about going to wonga because you were desperate. What would you have done if they had also said no? What did you need so desperately that you were prepared to pay 3000% interest for it?

Yes, it is a very odd forum, seems to be populated by self righteous bores who rather than offer advise, just come on to sneer at others and congratulate themselves for not being so stupid.

They seem to be part of a cheerleader squad as well.

What sad lives they seem to lead. they need to get out more.

Well that is my take on them..... :T

and right on cue whilst i type, another one enters the fray with some sound guidance after the event.
