Good foundation for weird combination skin

I have very strange skin. Sometimes it's really dry, flaky and almost eczema-y, the rest of the time it's greasy and spot prone. I should also add I'm extremely pale - very much an English rose complexion. Anything remotely orangey looks awful. I have a drawer full of liquid foundations that I've bought over the years.

Today I wore full slap (not a common occurrence) and my skin just felt awful and clogged, despite it looking great. Usually I use a one step powder based foundation (body shop) but that doesn't stay put.

I'm looking for a light, sensitive skin friendly foundation that looks good and stays put.

Any tips?

You skin sounds a bit like mine. It's not particularly MSE, but the one I've found good is Clinique Perfectly Real.

I'd suggest going to a counter and asking them to make you up with it. Then you can trial it for the day before deciding if you want to buy it.

  • Ooh good plan! I'm going shopping tomorrow so I'll look into it! Thanks!
  • Also talk to the Estee Lauder girls about the various forms of Double Wear, I would also highly recommend a supplement of Zinc, chelated form is best, this really helps any skin issues.

I went to the Boots No 7 counter and found them helpful. The Stayperfect Superlight fondation is good for dry skin and it doesn't clog your pores. The ladies on the counter can match up the exact shade to your skin so you can apply as much or as little as you want. The only down side is that it's not that cheap (about £15-ish) but I'd say it's worth it for a quality foundation.

Hey OP, sounds just like my skin too, paleness and all lol. And with having such sensitive skin, I hate trying new things in case I don't react well :(

I've found YSL Teint Touche Eclat & Lancome Teint Miracle work well for me, and give a light-medium coverage. Like Clinique & Estee Lauder, they're not cheap, but, for me anyway, they're worth the extra cash. For colour matching & feel of the foundation, I preferred YSL, but I think the Lancome one was longer lasting.

Bear in mind that what irritates everyone's skin can be very different, so what work for others may not work for you. Unfortunately I think it's a case of trial and error, so where you can, try before you buy.

I tend to get the ladies at the counter to use the product on my face before buying. Although, there was one brand which I had applied at the counter, felt fine the rest of the day so I bought it only to find that it irritated my skin with more long-term use - £30 down the drain  So, perhaps try asking for some samples? If you do, let me know how you get on - last time I asked for samples at Lancome, they refused :(

Another thing to consider is a good primer. The right one should really make a difference to the lasting power of your foundation. I tried various different ones and didn't find them much help, then had a mua for my wedding who suggested one to suit my skin, and the difference it made was unbelievable. I'm now converted!!

HTH. Let us know how you get on & if you find "the one" :rotfl:
