Right Choice Insurance Brokers - cooling off period

This morning I made an error in judgment and took out a car insurance policy with Right Choice Insurance Brokers, without realising the amount of negative press they have accumulated online.
My Insurance policy ends tomorrow, so I called them within 30 minutes of taking out the policy to cancel it.
1 hour later and £45 pounds lighter (they wanted £90) they agreed verbally to cancel the policy (which is yet to come into effect) and deduct this cancellation fee from my refund.
They also promised me this cancellation in writing, which is yet to materialise.
Problem is my insurance ends this weekend and I don't want to go ahead and take out another policy until i get it in writing, that it is cancelled, as I have read some truly bad reviews!
Any advice?

You need to confirm the cancellation to them (in writing). Get a a proof of posting in case they deny your instructions.
As you now have cancelled if you don't take out a new policy then don't take your car on the road after your current policy ends tomorrow till you get cover elsewhere0 -
I have just got insurance from Churchill (due to start tomorrow) and made a point to them to note down what happened in the morning with Right Choice.
If my policy has been cancelled prior to coming into effect should I still right to them, having already verbally cancelled and sent them an email reply?0 -

Yes I am concerned they will make some story up that they never recevied the call, I only say this after reading other users review.
I will write to them tomorrow to rubber stamp what has already been discussed....all this agro for a policy that hasent even come into effect!0 -
Wrote a letter this morning, which I both sent recorded delivery and sent over via their Fax number
Lo and behold I get that infamous text message on my mobile, URGENTLY requesting me to contacting them on their landline.
Once i passed the initial stage "Sharon" (I'm not making this up) put me on hold for 20 minutes for "Dave" to pick up and confirm that the cancellation fee was the same as confirmed by "jack" and that my refund will be processed less their fee. He also promised they will send something in writing.....
Sigh.
Jack, Dave and Sharon....
Thank you for your advice people, much obliged.0
