Food Shopping and CREDIT Card

Finances are stretched. Someone bought me on of those Visa PrePay cards last week which are effectively a VISA with abour 25 pound loaded on to them. You get all the relevant CREDIT card details sent tou you (NOT a Chip & Pin Code).
So cupboard is pretty bare and wanted to use the CREDIT card to food shop. Either online or click and collect. Online and delivery coulsnt happen as the card is on value 25 pounds which is why I maybe would have to do click and collect..
SO..
In fact what walk in food shops would take a CREDIT card or similarly which Online food store would as well and based on having 25 pounds. Sorry to ask all questions but needs must ;-(

Most (if not all) supermarkets will accept credit cards. The main ones certainly do, Aldi don't as far as I know.

Online ones also do but their minimum spend is usually around £25 and by the time you have added on the delivery charge, there isn't enough credit on your card.
    :p
  • I used a pre-paid Visa card I got sent as part of a cashback deal in Tesco without any problem. I would imagine all major supermarkets would be the same ( although may be not Lidl and Aldo as I don't think they take regular credit cards).

Anywhere that displays the Visa symbol.

Mine was a physical card and they sent me a pin code so was the same as using any other card.

Im being told when I ring that I need to have a chip and pin 4 digit code... This card is VISA (Credit Card) .. Its actually a 3vprepaid but they dont issue a 4 digit pin to you ;-(
  • Quick look up shows it can only be used online and not in stores, so that seems to be your only option.

buy vouchers online with it -www.highstreetvouchers.com You can get sent paper sainsburys and asda vouchers. They only take a day or two to come through then you can spend them in store
  • If it's the type of thing I've used then you don't get a pin number. I've used in Asda at till. It confused them at the time but they process as an EFT transaction and swipe the black strip on the card. No pin to be entered as you haven't got one. You need to sign for the spend (the old fashioned way). The card itself needs to be signed on the back by you before you use. Any credit not used will remain on the card for its next use. I think these are a fairly new thing? and therefore some shops are not used to processing? They are marketed though as being accepted all over the show. My experience, hope it helps :)

I've used one of these instore before. One point to note though, you can't use the card to part pay for a greater amount, so the till won't accept it as part of a £50 spend for example.
