So what are Currys up to with prices?

I have been looking over the last week at a washing machine on the Currys website. This will be for my daughters new house.
The price for the washing machine has been £329.99 all week until yesterday. All of a sudden the price has jumped to £399.99 (an increase of 21.2%).
So just what are they up to, can anyone explain?
I think they will hold this price for a few days, then drop the price back to £329.99 or more and advertise it as a sale price.
Any way I can challenge them on the new price? I don't have a screen capture of Currys website showing the original price, but the old price is still showing on the Which? website.

Prices change all the time in shops and supermarkets.
If it has been a popular model then they have probably upped the price which is normal for shops to do.
Have you googled the model and seen if you can get it anywhere else cheaper?
I recently used ao.com and they were brilliant ! It can purely because of marketing... look at major brands advertisements on TV.... "WAS XXX NOW XXX" in the small print there's always the dates of when the item was priced at the higher amount.
I'm not saying currys in particular do this.. as the previous post stated it could be for a number of reasons... but some retailers do use these methods as explained above.0 -
What brand and model you after?
Why do you need to get it from currys?0 -

Challenge them on what basis - for doing what all retailers are entitled to do, which is change their prices when they see fit to do so? If you think it's sharp practice, buy elsewhere.0 -
Try Appliance Online, much better prices on most white goods IMO and will price match wherever not. Only bad points I've experienced with them was the delivery people who were 2 hours later than planned (waited in 14 hours) but everything else was fine.0

As mentioned in Post 2, I also used ao.com and I couldnt fault them.
They even have £20 cashback going on at the moment, I had a dishwasher delivered a couple of weeks ago on Satuday and the £20 was back in my bank by the following wednesday.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Competitions Time, Shopping & Freebies boards, Employment, Jobseeking & Training boards If you need any help on these boards, do let me know. Even better are 365electrical.com, great prices, they have next day delivery with 2 men, email you the night before with a rough time, text you when they're half an hour away, can't fault them.
One thing that drives me crazy with Curry's is there stock that is delivered direct from manufacturer, they give you zero indication of just how long that may take.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I have never joined a blog before but am so incensed by Currys' tactics that I have to add my experience.
I decided to buy a small freezer and found an Indesit that I liked on Currys website. That was on 18th August and it was priced at £139.99. On 23rd Aug the price had risen to £149.99, 30th Aug £179.99, 5th Sept £189.99, 8th Sept £199.99 and 18th September it was (and still is) £229.99. That is £90 increase or 64% in just four weeks.
I asked Currys head office for an explanation and was basically told "because we can!!"
Isn't it time we tried to outlaw this underhand practice?
Come on Martin Lewis - if anyone can do it you can.
Needless to say I shall never trust Currys again and will now be ordering A LEC from John Lewis.0 -
There is nothing underhand in increasing prices. They are not misleading you they are just offering their goods to you for a certain price and they have the right to vary this, it's only when you have committed to buy, paid and a contract has been formed that they cannot change the price (except for errors).
If you don't like their price, buy elsewhere. As mentioned Appliance on line good as are Co-op and Boots (factor in delivery when comparing prices and with Boots points).
If you don't like Curry's prices then don't buy as their price is based on what they have calculated is customer demand.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)
