in Cutting tax
Hi all,
I've been trying to contact HMRC for the last 4 days. I don't get home from work until 6pm and they say there lines don't close until 8pm. However every time I phone I go through all the automated questions for them to then tell me they are too busy and to call back another time.
I've recently move job and they have charged me a lot of additional tax to the tune of around £500. I just want to tell them about the problem otherwise with PAYE it will take them many months to make detect the issue and fix the problem.
I use to contact my local tax office and it was easy. Now I need to phone 0300 300 3300. Every time I've been hung up on and not even got into the queue.
I did cheat and phone 0300 200 3311 which is for accountants and agents only. I got through to someone in 2 minutes and they were very polite but refused to help me.
I've also tried to contact the overseas number and put 141 in front of it so they don't detect its coming from inside the UK. However they still detect it and that trick doesn't work any more.
Anyone have a actually phone number that I can get though to HMRC and actually speak to someone.
The constantly complain about people avoiding tax but frankly I'm not surprised when it is this difficult to contact them.
I could write to them, they don't have an email address. If you have a complaint you need to phone the same number, so I can't even complain about the lack of service.
I can't call on a mobile during the day as I'm busy working. I'm really not sure what to do.

8 in the morning is the best time - by quite a way! There are 10 types of people in the world - those who understand binary and those who do not. :doh:0

I have had to call the tax office a number of times recently I always get through but expect to wait around 30 mins it's a pain.
I reached them on this number 0300 200 33000 -
I can only echo what purdyoaten says, I always call at 8 am and have never had to wait longer than 5 minutes to speak to someone. I don't think I've ever tried earlier but if blondebubbles thinks it'll work then you might not even have to wait that long (although there might not be as many people in the office before 8 so that logic may not work).0
