Vouchers - Think I'm thick!

Hi All,

Really sorry if this is discussed in huge detail and explained for blonde people like me, but I cant seem to work this one out. I've heard people talking about using vouchers for things when shopping in Sainsburys, Tesco (is Mr. T Tesco by the way?) etc, but not actually purchasing the product. IE - buying an apple and a peach and a can of coke, but giving in a voucher for Heinz Baked Beans even though they haven't brought them.

Am I interpreting them right?

If so, where are these vouchers from (ie, how do I get my grubby little mitts on some - I have a couple from magazines but obviously more is good :D)?

Can I really hand them over if I haven't brought said Baked Beans as above? (I'm guessing this works better if I've brought lots so the checkout person doesn't remember or not. Or can I be brazen and argue I am entitled to the money off anyway?)

Sorry for being a bit slow on this one - I've only just started reading this board and am new to the whole asking for money off things (needs must though and am sick of big big business making stupid profits, so if I can legally and am able to get a discount, why not? :) )

Many thanks in advance if you can answer in simple terms (for silly me :P) or point me in the right direction to answers

So no one had any ideas, tips, help or thoughts on vouchers?

Please guys, we are really struggling to eat at the moment, would really really appreciate any advise on this or a pointer as to where I can find an article MSN has written on it (I have looked and I can't seem to find anything).

    Hi PixiePie,

If you have a look at Martin's article on Supermarket Shopping that should help you to cut back your grocery bills. Also keep an eye on the threads on the Discount Codes 'n Vouchers board for vouchers.

I can't help any more with the vouchers as I don't use them very often but hopefully someone who knows more about using them will come along soon.

Hi pixiePie, the vouchers you can use against most items should have a bar code begining with 99....It is not something you can argue about though if you havent bought the item. Pink-winged is right to point you in the direction of the other threads, read the first threads in all of these, i should add the newspaper summary too as this will tell you what coupons are in the papers, always read the first posts, then have a look at what everyone else is doing with them, Tesco H&B is also a god place to look. Good luck

Thank you Teedy - I think I'm piecing it together, so thank you for your input.

Would it not be an idea to have a sticky in the relevant forum about this, as there isn't, not explaining everything I'm picking up very very slowly from many different forums, threads and even other sites. Seems a shame this isn't explained clearly in one place (but on the other hand, please don't think I'm moaning, this place is amazing, it's just frustrating to feel I'm in the no friends corner with all the cool kids knowing how vouchers etc work, and I don't lol)
