Hi guys,
Just starting a dmp and was gutted to see that halifax is part of lloyds banking group. my old accounts and 1 credit card about 5k debt with lloyds bank so can lloyds bank take my weekly wages from my new halifax account ?
I see on this site that Martin L says they are different banks with different organisational numbers registered so in fact separate entities. But saw on another site that they could potentially offset....
Then I thought if lloyds agree to the DMP why would they then take all my money for food petrol etc ? That is totally dumb then remembered banks don't give a f***
Thanks all
David

If it was me I'd look to use a completely separate bank just to be safe.

Hi Goosey007
Personally I haven't come across any cases where Halifax have offset against a Lloyds debt or vice versa. That's not to say it's never happened, of course, but...
By the time a debt has been included in an arrangement like a DMP, it's quite likely to have been passed to the bank's Collections Dept., if not sold on somewhere else altogether. Once this has happened, any offsetting that has been happening tends to stop as the practice is generally intended for "live" accounts.
If in doubt, as JasX says, you could open a further account elsewhere to err on the side of caution, but hopefully it doesn't have to come to that.
Regards
Dennis
