                    Hi,
can anyone point me at sources of information about apprentice schemes for young people? I've a nearly 16 year old who has missed much education due to health issues, and as I've been concentrating on that am not as clued up as I should be on what happens in the next stage of his education and progressing into adulthood.
There will be a session with a careers advisor, I understand, but would like to get as informed as I can before hand. He also has a Statement of Special Educational Needs so I am assuming he will still be due for extra support when he gets transfered over to having an EHC.
He likes the idea of an apprenticeship, earning a bit whilst learning a trade but I know zilch and googling brought up so many sites I didn't know where to start.
Thanks.

What sort of area is he hoping to work in?
Most are available through learn direct or the national apprenticeship website "No one can change the past. The only thing we can do is strive to make up for our mistakes. Why must we make up for our mistakes, you ask? Because in so doing...we can find the way back to our path. And once we've found our path we can move on from our past mistakes toward a brighter future"

Thanks, that's a good start. The trouble is, he doesn't really know. He has a vague idea of being a 'mechanic' but blacksmithing appeals. I thought I'd have a look at what sort of opportunities are likely to be available next year and he and I could do some more investigating once we had a clear idea of what is around.

Thanks, yes. I'm wondering what support he would have on an apprenticeship scheme, I know the new scheme can follow him till his early twenties if necessary. I'll ask the NAS as well.
