Mortgage brokers

Options
I am totally clueless on the subject, 1st time buyer. Where do I start? Do I go local and where would I start to find someone trustworthy , or do I go with a national firm that you deal with everything over phone. Thoughts appreciated x

Its entirely up to you whether you go local or over the phone - both have their pros and cons. Personally I tend to find you get better service from smaller local companies (this is just generic, not so much mortgage related - mechanics, accountants, carpets etc).

Have a chat with them, see if you get on or if you feel like they are not on your wavelength or too pushy etc. Loads of people call me to have a quick chat, im sure they do that with other brokers also so you wont be alone calling them.

Ask friends and relatives who they used.
A company can spend thousands on advertisting, but nothing beats a referral from a satisfied client.

  • We just completed our mortgage with an advisor from the mortgage advice bureau. We were recommended him by a friend who had recently used his services.
I cannot praise the service enough. I can't speak for the whole business but the advisor who have been dealing with has been amazing. Our application took just over a week and we didn't have to do a thing just provide the initial docs, P60, bank statements eat.

I know there have been some issues that he sorted without even alertig us just got it all sorted!

I know they cost but personally I think it's worth every penny inventing in a good mortgage advisor.
