Moving house, BT says it's a 12 month contract, any way around this?

Here's what I (hopefully) think will happen:
I've been in my current place (property 1) for a year, thus I am not ending the current BT contract early.
When I move into my new flat (property 2), I will start a new 12 month contract.
If I move out of property 2 after 6 months, I will take up yet another contract with BT in my next abode (property 3).
What I understood by the T&C's posted by Sunil was that, so long as when I move I always reconnect with BT and start a new contract, I will not have to pay the £70 cancellation fee. But, each time, I will start back again at the beginning of a 12 month contract, so until I have been in one place for at least 12 months, there's no way of getting out from their clutches without paying the £70!
I'm just on the regular Option 1 with no extra features, and I think I'll just stick with that for now until I am permanantly settled somewhere.
Thanks for all the input, I think I'll try to phone BT to confirm that what I've said above is true, and will report back to clear things up.
Hiya, I work for BT and what you have said above is correct. But the cancellation fee is capped at £70, if you cancel after 6 months it is whatever is left of the line rental at £11 per month. EG, if you have 4 months left in contract you canc fee would be £44.

Sorry to jump into this thread.
I am moving to in 4 weeks time, I have been with BT for the past 2 years and when i move i want to take up a phone and BB offer ( for example Tiscali)
but they say you must have a BT number to start with,
So.. does this mean If I moved with BT to my new house this will automatically start a 12 month contract???
The thing is i'm in the forces and we tand to move around quite a bit and i want to be able to take advantage of the combined package offers,
However if there is a cancellation fee this will mean it would really be an offer as I would be paying the package price + a BT cancellation charge
Please could someone clarify
Many thanks

Yes, when you move to your new house you will start a fresh 12 month contract with BT for your exchange line rental. Though you could choose another supplier to provide your broadband service, but be careful because many broadband suppliers also want you to sign-up for 12 months.0

so because of this does this mean that BT are becoming very much the same as Sky TV in the fact that they have the monopoly over new PSTN telephone lines0

Not really. It's not a monopoly because there is more than one service provider.
But reasonably you have to undrstand that their cost model will be based on you taking exchange line service from them for a minimum of 12 months.
Also, with BT's exchange line you can choose to route your calls via any operator you wish. BT have to allow you to do this if you wish. Conversely the others, ie Sky, TalkTalk etc, are not compelled to allow you to have their exchange line and allow you to route your calls via other operators.0 -

No.
Tiscali could arrange for Openreach (the part of BT which installs new lines) to install a line at your new house instead of making you go via BT Retail first (the part of BT who you talk too) - and on the same price/terms as BT Retail has.
However, many companies like Tiscali and TalkTalk just don't offer this option to their customers..

But Tiscali will allow you to just move your calls and broadband to them ,without taking their line rental. Where as Talk Talk will not.0 -

There is already a BT line installed in the house, however because nobody is living there it is not active0
