DBS checks for potential winner?

This seems to be the DBS list for what documents are needed for the check. The birth certificate is an option, which would give the mother's maiden name, but there are also plenty of others that could make up the three required documents...

Unless it was a really good prize, I'd probably walk away from this.
I assume it's legit since everything seems to be checking out, but I'm not sure I'd want to give that information out, it just seems a bit unnecessary. I don't really see why they care if your a criminal or not, it's not like they'll stop you from going out and buying whatever the prize is in a shop, or even their online store (if they have one).
It's hard to judge not knowing what the prize is, as to why they would want or need to do a background check.0 -

Lilias - very interesting, thank you; no as far as she knows there is no requirement for a tv appearance and that is exactly the kind of thing she wouldn't have gone in for.
And, Rahven, there was no indication that she would be in the employ of the company.
As the competition end date was a couple of weeks ago the link from this site leads to a 'page not found' message on the site the competition was on so no way of finding the Ts and Cs that way.
Thanks for your kind offer JessicAhh - at the moment won't take you up on it as other avenues are being pursued.
If you c&p the link for the T&Cs into google and when the results come up click the tiny downward arrow next to the webpage name, then click cache you will be able to see a cached version of the T&Cs.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
DO NOT SEND ANY INFO!!!!
DBS checks cost over £50, and since the 1st Sept, have to be renewed ever year, which again has a cost (think its about £18 a year).
I had to get a DBS for my daughter in May, we did not have to send any documentation, but she did have to get a trusted person to witness her birth certificate, passport and a letter with her address on (similar to getting someone to witness a passport) and they had to fill in a form, which was sent (or emailed) to the DBS service, i forget their name now but can find out if necessary. At no point was a mothers maiden name needed.
Im not sure about T&Cs for different comps, but this sort of information is not needed for a competition win - its to check criminal records etc - i work with children which is why i have the old CRB check, and both my children have had DBS checks. It was all very official and not requested over a phone call at all - its a long and difficult procedure and could NEVER be done in 24 hours. I know childminders that have waited weeks for things to come through, this shouts scam to me completely!0 -
Has she heard anything back from the company, when she contacted them independently, Bizzie Lizzie?0

I agree that the procedure is a pain in the bum and quite fiddly, but I have to get DBS checks done for our staff and we get a result (electronically) within 24 hours, in fact the last one I did I got back in about 4 hours. The postal certificate gets sent out at the same time but obviously takes a few days to be received."You can't buy love, but you can pay heavily for it." Henry Youngman0 -

In other news conversations have been had with the main organisation running the contest and it has been confirmed as bona fide.
Thanks all for the contributions and please understand that commercial confidentiality means that I can't give any further information at this stage.
In due course, and if my friend agrees, I'll let you know what it was.0 -
Hi, I do DBS checks at work. The form asks "have you ever been known by any other names?" - it does not ask for parents details. For information DBS checks are free for volunteers.2019: Footcream, tickets to homebuilding show,

This can vary. I had one DBS which took a few days to get back and anothe one that took 8 weeks to get back to me!!
(This was in the summer when school teachers would be applying for them at the same time as well) but the timings do differ.0 -
