Transport for London, not very good from my experience

  • Actually the law when bus driving & passengers on board is no reversing unsupervised at all. Inspectors/cops/traffic wardens are the only ones permitted to supervise too. The other road user is expected to get out of the way as the bus has priority on the road, but 99% of car drivers ignore this. He was right not to speak to you & legally there is no complaint. Also had you gone forward & turned a little & waited he would have driven the bus out of the way & you both could have continued on your way.

I dont think this is about lewgal, or illegal. your so wrong on what you said. I am at the junction, driver drives his bus onto my road, he cant get passed, I have to reverse .

The driver should of seen my xar positioned at the junction, waited for me to turn left, and then enter my road = happy car user, happy bus driver, job done.

In regards to not to communicate with another driver, again stupid thing to say that is right.

on a side line, I went to saisburys yesterday. I accidently stood in the way of a shopper with a trolly, which prevented the shopper from shopping. I said "sorry" to the shopper, and then moved out the way. The woman replied "no problem" both shoppers happy, job done

Had the police arrived they would have seen if you could back up safely and told you to back up. Next time you see a bus driver reversing without a pilot, video it and send it to the bus company who will be only too pleased to talk to the driver. Not an ideal situation but there may well have been cyclists behind that bus, or a mum with a push chair. It's a suck it up situation I'm afraid, not the driver's fault, more the planning people who route buses down narrow roads.

thank god the police did not arrive, and they were not needed anyway. true, there might of been other people behind the bus. The road he was turning into was not clear for him to do so, as I was at the junction. Sorry, I blame the driver, he should of waited, simple. Instead he drove onto my road without noticing it was not clear to do so, although yes, planning should take responsibility too. I mean, looking at the oppersite way, if the bus was at the junction, and I wanted to drive onto that road, it would be impossible for me to drive ontot hat road, and drive freely without hitting the bus. I would of simply let the bus go, and then drove onto the road, job done.

  • I don't quite understand the substance of your complaint. Essentially two separate events occurred.

    1. The bus driver turned into the road you were leaving, misjudged the situation/didn't notice you/whatever, causing a situation where one of you needed to reverse.
    2. The bus driver expected you to reverse (for quite good reasons, because whatever happened in part 1, he's a massive bus, who would have to reverse into a main road; and you're a manoveurable car reversing back into a quiet residential road). He's then avoided engaging in conversation, which has helped avoid any conflict escalation.

I understand how you are annoyed that he's made a mistake, any you've had to reverse, but you reversing also sounds like the safest way to resolve the situation.

  • I told the driver, that was not smart, and asked him to back up. The driver response was to turn his engine off.

I backed up a little, and he restarted his engine.

Sure it wasn't a hybrid witha stop-start engine? Even if not, the driver will be monitored closely on his fuel use, so turning the engine off if he thought he was going to be stuck was sensible.

All London buses have got exterior CCTV - if you're quick you should be able to get it, or at least ask the company Safety Manager to review it. Go directly to the bus company, not TfL, simply because CCTV is stored on a hard drive and will be overwritten pretty soon. TfL will take too long to pass the request on.

Interesting, have you got the legal reference for that? I know it's against many bus company regulations, to stop buses reversing into objects they can't see in their mirrors, but I wasn't aware it was law
